I extracted the reservoir today and found the culprit is this small elbow hose. It has a crack in it. I searched Toyota parts online and it doesn't appear you can just buy this individual piece.

    Thoughts? Should I attempt a glue/patch job?

    here you go: http://www.ebay.com/itm/U-Shaped-Ru...ast-/151519031437?hash=item23473cf08d&vxp=mtr

but if it were me I would just go to the hardware store and buy the shortest piece of aluminum tubing that size and heat it up and bend it to make a metal u-turn

I believe there is enough room there to take a longer hose and let it form its own circular loop then use a wire tie or electrical tape to hold it to the pump so it holds its shape and doesn't kink over time.

I had the same exact problem! I just used a much longer piece (maybe 4-6 inches) of rubber tubing so I could loop it around without kinking it. It's been working fine.

While mine looks really dirty from 17 yrs of battle, everything else is fine with exception of that elbow hose. I will be headed to the hardware store as the guys above suggested to do some fabricating. You don't want to be without this during bug season in Fla!

while you have the reservoir out pull the pump out and clean the junk in there, you wouldn't believe the gunk that can build up in there sometimes. all It takes is someone put dish soap in it trying to save money, and the soap hardens and crystalizes into something looking like corrosion.

also examine the filler neck carefully, they often crack at the very thin section of the neck where it turns straight up. see if its brittle and cracking and if so wrap it with fiberglass while its out so you never have to worry about it later.

My filler tube is all spider web cracked, and actually has a few pieces broken out of it. I'm eventually going to have to get a new reservoir.

take it out, lightly sand it or scrub it with a green pot scratcher for doing dishes and then wrap it in fiberglass. they cost $100 for those damn things and any used one you buy will look just like yours with cracks starting. you can buy a small fiberglass kit with everything you need for around $25 and all you do is wet the cloth and wrap it around it, that's all there is to fiberglassing it.

the only weak spot issue is the bend in the neck so after to reinforce it with fiberglass its better then new and will outlast the truck.

you will be mad at yourself if you let it fall apart then try to patch it with a hole in it or see the price you have to pay to replace it.

if I bought a brand new one today, the first thing I would do before installing it is wrap fiberglass around the bend of the neck so it does start to crack in 10 years.

Same here mine is dry rotted at the neck too. I can't fill it above the neck or it leaks but that's what you get when you have 231,000 miles on my 04 Tacoma. I am sure you could find a new resevior at a junkyard if the dry rot on the neck is the problem

Plasti-weld made by JB weld. mix it up in your hand and form around crack. Let harden. Sand/shape if you want. by far the easiest method of repairing platics.
