Window vents... What's the attraction?

I see window vents are a fairly popular item. And I get their value for leaving the windows cracked on a hot day, especially when it could rain at anytime. Trust me, I know, I lived in Florida!

BUT, I'm in the mountains of New Hampshire where hot days are a rarity.

Is there another benefit to window vents that would make me spend my money?

Oh, I also here that there are two types... Something about low profile or channel vents, etc.???

People use them to keep their window open a couple of inches and not worry about it raining inside their truck. I know some folks who will park their car at work and leave the windows cracked open an inch or two because they have these.

    The cynical view is copycat-ism.

There is a non-trivial number of people who do various mods because they saw some dude on instagram, and want to copy the look with little to no regard for if it actually suits their needs, aside from aesthetics.

IMO, these vent things are ugly as sin, so hopefully most people put them on for reasons other than aesthetics.

    This.

Have been on the fence about pickup up a set, mostly because I am not a huge fan of taping them to the inner window seal and the pressure it puts on the window when up. Not to mention the look a bit...weird.

If you are doing them for the aesthetic, likely better off choosing another mod.

I drive with heat or A/C on fresh air mode 100% of the time. Windows stay closed to keep dust down. The sliding window in the back even has a security bar blocking it closed.

In my experience, tinted glass and sunshades make the biggest difference in keeping interior temps down when parked in the sun.

When I lived in Florida, they were invaluable. Window tint, windshield reflector and cracked the windows when I parked. It kept the truck from getting too hot and once I started driving, it would cool down fairly easily. That's really the only reason I see for them, aside from someone who smokes in their car on a rainy day.

I don't have them on any cars anymore now that I live in VA (and have remote start to cool the cars down)

The Weathertech vents don't require tape.

As I recall, back in the day ( 40 years ago mind you )... these items ( assuming you are referring to these )
provided nice protection from the rain slapping you about the face as you drove in a rain with the windows
cracked for ventilation. Way back then, A/C was a premium, and lots of people just didn't have it, so on
hot summer days you'd crack the window and be saved from the rain. Not 100% mind you but a great deal.

As an added bonus, if one flicked the ashes from a smoke out the window, they would also provide relief from
having the ashes blow back on you by diverting the air flow as well.

Advice for anyone and everyone: If you smoke, stop, cut back, let it go. Fking things have done a number on
my heart. Also, ( gird your loins folks ).... go on a Vegan Diet. If not 100% do it 50% and if not 50% do it 25%.
Clue- look at the fat content on whole milk compared to Oat Milk.

One: It's not that horrible some of the dishes make my mouth water.
Two: When you get my age and have lived on Beef/ Ribs/ Milkshakes/ Cheese/ Whole Milk etc etc etc you don't
want to be paying out the azz for medical procedures to correct buildup in your arteries.

Doctors found scary monsters roaming around my heart and arteries and I've had to bite the bullet and for
the last 90 days have been about 95% total vegan diet - I'll tell you now I feel much better, sleep better,
dropped some weight, and the plumbing is working quite well again ( if you catch the drift ). That alone is
    worth the price LOL ...

It was either that or a triple bypass. I'll change my diet thank you very much LOL...

That's what I do. At work my truck is parked outside all day, so in summer, I crack the windows to let some of the heat escape. But then I don't have to worry about the rain getting in.

I can't really justify it the more I look at them. Living in Southern California, we don't know what rain is...
On top of that, I have a sunroof I can crack open. :anonymous:

I opted not to get them either. Besides not being wild about the look I've read reviews that said some people had trouble with their auto-close on the window until things got broken in. I went with window tint and a sun shade instead.

Perhaps its nice to crack the window for some fresh air without rain or snow coming in? Just because you do not have a use for them does not mean others don't. FYI Friday is tomorrow :anonymous:

I just use a window shade when I park and leave the rear slider cracked or open a bit if it’s parked at my house for a couple of hours. I need to get around to having the side windows tinted, if nothing else to keep the interior from fading.

I need tint, bad...at a minimum matching the front windows to the backs.

I concur on the auto-close issues, read up on them quite a bit. I also don't like the idea of how tight the window seal is with pressing into them every time they go up/down. I am sure it is fine in the long run, and have read plenty of members that have had them for eons, but I would rather not throw something in there if it can be avoided.

I have AVS ones that slip inside with window channel. I also have the AVS bug deflector. I've put window vents on all my vehicles for over 25 years. They are an invaluable must for me. And, I think the black trim looks good against the army green color of my 2020 Pro.

Looks aside.... the purpose is for ventilation while preventing intrusion.

There are two types, tape and in-channel. The "tape" type uses double sided automotive grade tape to attach the vent to the window frame. The "in-channel" type fit into the channel that guides the window.

    Simple....If you don't like, don't buy.

BTW, milk only comes from animals, commonly dairy cows. Oats, almonds and such do not produce milk. It is a highly manufactured product.

<edit> The taint meat products fall into the same group. Plants highly processed to "taste" like meat. Meat only comes from animals.

I have yet to see a 100% vegan look like a healthy human. <endedit>
