    Hello,

I am looking to get my windows tinted, what are some general recommendations? I don't need them to be extreme because of visibilty issues as it gets dark. Just want to hear what others have done.

    Thanks!

32 or 35 % on front 2, same 32/35 over stock dyed glass 5% on the back slider. Works for me And I can use the mirrors at night!

A good shop will have large installed samples for you to consider, and all should be legal.

Go as dark as you're comfortable with while still having visibility at night. It'll be a personal preference between privacy and visibility. What's more important and worth it for me is using the premium ceramic over dyed. It does a noticeably better job at keeping the cab cool during the hot season without making it so dark that it's a pain to drive at night.

Really depends on your use case and personal preference. The higher the quality of film the more you're going to pay. At the end of the day the most important thing is finding a good installer, even the highest quality film is going to be shit if it's installed poorly.

I would suggest doing some research to decide what exactly you need and then from there finding a good installer in your area that carries the type and brand of film you're looking for.

This video has a good overview of the different types of tint available and explains the terminology well: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bk5ToThgxOE

I usually just ask to match the rear. I believe they adjust for the light coming through the windshield.

Keep it legal man, it's dark enough and safer.

This sooooo much depends on the tint you choose. IMO ceramic is the only way to go anymore if you live somewhere it gets hot. Ceramic also has better clarity, so it looks less dark from inside than the same % in carbon-based tint. My go-to is 20% all around (if the vehicle has privacy glass in the rear, else 5% rear) with 70% on the full windshield and never have issues seeing out in any of my cars.

I matched (as close as possible) the factory rears. It's a little dark at night, but don't find it an issue...

I told my tint shop to match the rear side windows on the front side windows. No problem with visibility at night. Later I had them do a band across to top of the windshield in the same ceramic tint, no problem. It all comes down to personal preference, after all it is your money!

I have a 5% "brow strip" across the top of the windshield. I live in AZ where even police get windshield tint (paid under the table) AND especially in summer AZ is damned bright so it has worked wonders and I only need the visors when the sun is level with the horizon. I can see traffic lights through it, and the only things it really blocks is my view of airplanes and helicopters.

I also put 50% over the rest of the windshield but AZ is damned sunny and it does help much without hardly and noticeable effect seeing even at night.

Anyone do 40-50% on the front and then like an 80% but ceramic so it blocks heat on the rear and back? thinking about bringing mine in and asking for this. Leaning towards 50% as my GTI has 40% all around and the state inspection people are still dicks about it.

Ceramic naturally blocks heat better than plastic sheets, so less dark can still accomplish the task. But if you want to attract people by blocking view of your interior, you chose that battle.

I have 50 on the front and at night it is dark. I am turning 65 and feel that is part of the issue. Thinking of going down to 35.

I went with matching the factory rear on the front sides and 50% on the windshield. I like don't any issues with driving at night.

Ceramic is really only good for windshields and slanted back glass. Side windows are not greatly impacted by the suns rays making ceramic not really worth the price.

When it comes to window tint, the lower the number the darker the tint, if 50 is too dark for you then you definitely don’t want to go to 35.
