I have a 2021 Toyota Tacoma Limited in Wind Chill Pearl. It's currently in the body shop getting fixed due to someone hitting it in a parking lot. The body shop painted the new parts "White Pearl" which is very different from the Wind Chill Pearl. The color code in the door is 0089, which is the same color code as white pearl. I made it very clear that the colors are two different colors and it needs to be Wind Chill Pearl but the body shop insists that White Pearl and Wind Chill Pearl are the same color. I've asked them to not go off of the door number and to go off of the color name, Wind Chill Pearl, but they are saying that White Pearl is body shop talk and the same as Wind Chill Pearl.

Has anyone else had an issue with this?

In the photo, the bottom bumper and driver side wheel fender were repainted White Pearl and replaced. The colors are two different colors.

That is clearly different in the picture. They could have confused it with blizzard pearl code 070 and can be known as pearl white. Since WCP is a tri color its hard to blend to original paint.

Blizzard pearl has a more brown/gold metallic where WCP has a silver metallic look.

The body shop should ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS go off of the paint code thats in the door, glove box, wherever it may be depending on vehicle make. They should NEVER go off of paint name alone. That is incorrect.

But one MAJOR issue I see is panel painting. Black is the ONLY color that you can panel paint. Example: Paint just the hood, separate from the vehicle, then place on the vehicle. Every other color you have to blend and especially metallics and pearls because you'll never be able to match it 100%. So in this instance they should've painted the bumper, painted on into the grill area, hood, and on into the fenders as well and just slowly let it die into the existing paint job.

If you pay attention, I'm sure you'll see examples of this daily in random parking lots. Random cars that have a fender, door, whatever thats just SLIGHTLY a shade off from the rest of the vehicle. Thats because someone simply panel painted the part and didn't blend it into the rest of the vehicle.

I agree with this 100%. Always match by paint code. Also, pearls are very hard to match almost impossible to be 100%. I can always tell a repainted pearl job by looking at it at different angles. Same with metallics. I had a 2016 Silver Sky Metallic that I had a door repainted. There were 4 or 5 different shades of that color even thou it was the same paint code. It was never 100%. Looking at it some angles no problem at other angles you could defiantly tell repainted.

My Highlander is 089 Windchill Pearl White. Regular Pearl White paint code shows as 070. They obviously screwed up and are trying to make you eat their mistake.
