I'm taking my front seats out to put the Clazzio seat covers on and I got to wondering about disconnecting the electrical connections under the seats. Any chance doing so could set off the airbags? You hear anecdotal stories about it happening, but wanted to make sure. Have even heard that you should disconnect battery and wait a day or two for any residual charge to dissipate that might otherwise set them off. (I make my living in risk management, so I have become prone to worrying about shit that others pffft.) Thanks!

No it won't. I've unplugged the wires under the seat to vacuum and shampoo the carpet underneath many times and nothing happens.

You will be fine. I'm an auto mechanic for over 22 years and when removing seats with air bags I never disconnect the battery. But you can disconnect the battery if you wish.

I disconnected my battery and waited 20 minutes, disconnected the airbag wires without any issue to remove the seats.

I was not aware there are any air bags in the seats. Just the weight sensors. These do not trigger air bags.

Mechanic for nearly as long, the only time I’ve ever disconnected a battery was to change a starter, alternator, or.....a battery.

*I* would disconnect the battery and wait about 30 minutes. Which is about 29 minutes longer than required for the system capacitors to discharge.

You *can* do all kinds of electrical stuff w/o disconnecting the battery. Doesn't mean you should.

Excellent info guys. Thanks. Got the headrests and one rear seat cushion on last night. Wow. Way beyond any seat covers I have ever owned. Can't wait to see what these look like in total. Left all pieces in the Taco last night. NICE leather smell this morning!:)

Make sure the outer sides of your seat covers have openings for the ejection charges, they tend to get a little wonky if the thrust vectors are unbalanced.

Seriously, I had to return some because they gave me the wrong ones and there were no airbag holes on the side!

The seats have the side air bags in them, they should always be marked with a tag.20181202_144309.jpg

I think you need to buy compatible seat covers designed for use with side air bags.

Too many trucks and mods to list.. check builds
honestly i dont even discconect the battery when messing with any airbags. i dont advise it. but if your careful theres nothing to fear.. just make sure keys off (again don't do this... i dont want to be responsible for injury!)

It has to come out of the seat and go through that port in the seat cover successfully - if not, it would not be good:

Okay now, so with everything I've read on this forum about Clazzio seat covers and the stellar reviews that have been offered, you mean to tell me that Clazzio makes them without the features necessary to work with the airbags in our truck? Sending me for a lefthanded screwdriver here?

Looks like they are designed to split like the factory covers.
