It would be a nice option, but I doubt it. EVs are what the gov't wants to push down our throat, so EVs we shall get.

I hear the 4BT Cummins make a good swap.

Saw somewhere a bio diesel was in the works. Also might have been for a Tundra. I'll see if I can find it.

^^^^^ This would be a perfect scenario, if one has the $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

One of our neighbors in Los Angeles back in the mid 70's had a Toyota diesel pickup. Don't know if they bought it in the US, or imported from somewhere else....

I had a 2001 Dodge with the ISB Cummins. Greatest engine ever offered in a pickup from a manufacturer! I would kill for low end torque in my Tacoma. It kills me that I have to wind up to 2,000+ RPMs in order not to stall the damn thing just taking off from a stoplight, unloaded. The engine is so quiet, I have stalled it many times, as I am not in the habit of looking at my tach every time I have to start from a stationary position, because I can't hear how fast the engine is running. My Cummins, I could let out the clutch and not touch the throttle at all, and even if I was towing, it would never stall. Not to mention, I love the sound of a diesel engine, and turbo whine :D

    No.

    Reason: emissions.

    Case closed.

I would buy a Toyota-hino 3/4 or 1 ton in a heartbeat to replace my F250. Midsize diesel? Nah I don't see the need especially with modern DEF systems. I'd rather have a plug in hybrid that gets 50 miles EV range + 250ish mile gas range. Just enough EV range to cover the work commute and gas for road trips. Jeep wrangler 4xe is 80% there.

    Yeah.
I worked at a Datsun dealership when they had a diesel model (yeah, a long time ago, right about the time they announced the name change to Nissan). Those things couldn't get out of their own way. That said, the gas versions weren't much peppier.

My old 1 ton square body Chevy 4x4 with the 6.2 got 20mpg city and highway with 4:56 gears
Just imagine the mileage in a Tacoma chassis:fingerscrossed:

You can likely fix your problem with gears.

    I did that a lot in a '59 Chevy 3/4 ton with a straight 6. Granny 1st gear, 4:56 rear gears.

5:10 in yours should handle it.

Toyota (and industry) trend is for hybrids to fill the same role.

Note Jeep recently killed off the diesel Wrangler, but the 4xe lives on.

Pulling out even loaded is never a problem.

Have not heard good things about the 4xe.

Jeep reliability is already … adding the 4xe complexity is something I will be staying away from.
