I have a boat that waighs about 4500 pounds an I have never pulled anything that big with my 2015 Tacoma 2wd dub cab with the 4.0 v6 it dose have the towing package. I just want to know if it will be able to pull it out the water without a problem . If anyone has some info for me I would appreciate it thank.

If you can get traction it probably will......
If you can’t get traction, and the wheels spin, it’s not going to be fun.

I’d personally prefer 4x4, and depending on ramp grade, maybe even low range?.

I wouldn't even try it unless there was a bigger truck there to pull you out in case of an emergency. Ramps are slick more often than not. I specifically wanted 4wd for that very reason

I had a 23 foot walk around. Weight was about 4200 dry, and the trailer was another 1000 pounds. Add that to the random stuff on the boat like fluids and gear, I estimate I was at 6,000. Had serious trouble pulling with my taco. I have the v6 with 4x4. I did it, but didn’t feel comfortable at all.

Do you have the towing package first - if not forget it.
If yes, going in will be easy but as stated the ramps get slippery so rear wheels may spin and traction control might not do you much good. Ocean ramps maybe impossible at lower tides. If always a 2 person launch you can use the boat motor to give the truck an initial push till the trailer comes out of the water (based on trailer height and motor as you don't want to trash the skeg and prop). On my 3500 boat/trailer on ocean ramps I always have it in 4 High when pulling up the ramp. Remember on lots of ramps the trucks rear wheels will be in the water due to ramp angle and trailer tongue length.

When I had my ski boat I never needed 4wd. As long as I was easy on the pedal it pulled it right out. Hell, when I lived in Fl we launched our ski boat with a tiny 2wd Nissan. Sometimes it was spinning a tire coming up the ramp but it always made it !

I personally would not be using a Tacoma to launch a boat that big. You need a 4x4 hands down if you launch boats.
You are right at the max towing capacity with a towing package, you are overweight without the tow package. I personally do not trust this truck enough to handle that type of boat. Get a full size.

Yeah, that’s a bit crazy. Dude/dudette must’ve done everything wrong for it to slide that deep. I guess once you lose it, gravity takes over but damn, not even the skewp could save ‘em..

Saw a 3rd gen towing a 5th wheel through a mountain pass yesterday. I imagine you should be fine with the boat.

The question is not, "Can you tow it?"
The real question is, "Can you stop it?"

Just make sure you turn on the LSD. This will aid in traction and will also shut off that dreaded traction control....which will work against you in a situation like launching a boat on a slick surface

One way that I suspect that trucks end up in the water is 2WD truck in park, nobody in the cab, trailer not far enough into the water, boat puts pressure on rear of trailer, which lifts the tongue, which lifts the back tires of the truck off the ground, and truck goes in the water. This is just a suspicion. I've never read anywhere that this was actually the cause.
