I just ordered Infinty Kappa components for the front doors and wanted kappas for the rear doors also. My Tacoma is the 06 access cab model. Anyone know if the coaxial 6.5"s will fit?
Crutchfield says no but I got curious and did some measuring. I even took my component mid and test fitted it back there just fine. The only issue I saw was the hole was too large requiring a adapter plate to fill the gap. Does anyone know if their is any particular reason why crutchfield says it's a no go?
    Top height maybe?
I've emailed twice with no response.

Ok i cant really answer your question, however i ordered the 6.5"s Kappa as well, and honestly i'm gunna make it fit. I wanted to have Kappas in the front and back, i think they will sound the best, especially paired together. as far as fitment I don't think it will be off by much if any, you might have to do some slight trimming but nothing major. I'll have mine in about a week and will let you know, if you haven't already figured it out.

I'd like to get them to fit as well. When I called Crutchfield, they recommended two brands (one of them was Kicker), and both of them were 5 1/4 speakers. I would rather not put a smaller speaker than OEM in the back doors, even if it's outside of the sound stage. I may go ahead and do it anyway bc I'm only running the rear off the head unit power.

    Yes
Stores like that just sell what their computer tells them fits the stock location. Trust your measurements, diameter and depth and compare to the stats of the speaker. You can make your own adapter plates very easily simply trace the OE plate or hole pattern then use the template that comes with the speakers to cut your new speaker hole. The most important thing is that you seal up the hole or your adapter plate well. Using foam tape is an easy way to to do so.

Wanna know what speakers and head unit will fit with no modification, with slight modification, or no way in hell they will fit? Go to crutchfield.com!

Incorrect! Crutchfield knows what they are doing.

I have the double cab and am running infinity kappas in front and rear. What you will probably need is an adapter plate for the speaker. Go to *********.com and I believe they have them or ebay.. On the crutchfield site it also said they wouldn't fit my truck but I got the adapter plates and they fit perfectly.

Exactly. If crutchfield says they won't fit, they will either provide a kit to make it fit, or if it is too extensive, they will straight out say it will not fit. Of course you could make anything work, but crutchfield beleives in clean installs.

Are you running the rears off an amp? If so, what size? I plan to run them on the head unit initially. I may get a dedicated amp later though for the two rears.

    So here's a little update.

I called crutchfield this mourning and got someone on the phone. Told him the application,"06 tacoma access cab in the rear doors". He said no go so I ask why, what's the issue? According to my measurements their is more than enough on my 06. He said diameter and the bottom depth was fine but the issue was top height. He said factory measured .778 vs the kappa 6 3/4" which is.834 due to the taller tweeter. So the kappa converts to 53/64 to 27/32. That's the closest conversion I could find. That is unless I really screwed up,lol. But when I compared the original .778 which is 49/64 to 25/32 to my speaker I have 1 1/8" tall. So their specs didn't ad up to mine for some reason. My speakers have a spacer adapter made to the top of them which doesn't seem to be included in their specs. maybe I'm a idiot and I'm completely wrong.

I don't believe the man was wrong but I think something is off with their specs.
I'm wondering if their are different variations of rear speaker set ups or maybe variations in those years or something.

So I said the hell with it and ordered them and the adapter that are suppose to fit and see what I can do. I should have them in a few days.

Edit: got my digital caliper working to get some actual specs.
    Inifinty Kappa 6 3/4" coaxial .834 source Crutchfield.com factory supposed measurement .778
My actual measurement with a digital caliper came to 1.111 but if you exclude the spacer on the front side it does out to their measurements.

Do you have a link to the plastic adapters you used for the rear speakers?

I don't have the link but if you just type "tacoma speaker adapters" into the ebay search they'll come up. It will list what years the adapters are for in the description.

Did you use the scouche brand or another brand?

Good to know they worked on your double cab.

I got my speakers and scouche adapters that crutchfield provided. I haven't tried to install them on my 06 access cab yet but they appear that the adapter might be a little too tall. The speaker mounting holes also hang over the side of the mounting flange which just stupid. So you have to use a long screw and bypass the mounting area and screw into the base of the adapter or the door.

If I had a 1/2" flat plate or went with another brand I think they would most likely fit. I'll try to look at them on lunch tomorrow and see what happens.

I decided to make a mount myself since the scouche mounts sucked and didn't fit the speaker right anyway. In my access cab the Infinity coaxial 62.11i's fit with plenty of room. The scouche mount looked too tall but I haven't test fitted it in my door with the door panel on yet.

I ended making a mount myself out of 1/2" mdf and theirs still plenty of room between the speaker and the door panel. I snapped a photo during a test fit. I still won't have it all wired up till this weekend but at least I know it will all fit.

So in my 06 access cab the Infinty coaxial's will without a doubt fit,as long as you have the right mount. I don't know exactly how tall the mount can be but with the 1/2" plate theirs still some room to go. A 3/4" may even fit but I'm not sure.

Is this the Entune/JBL Headunit? I've bee thinking of upgrading too but don't feel like adding a amp.
