toyotas fuel pump recall on over 5 million vehicles I've read...
from what I understand the recall is mandatory because they know they have a defective part....but does that mean that every vehicle fuel pump is going to eventually fail... or is it Hit or Miss if you got a defective part.... regardless I'm going to have mine repaired as soon as there's a remedy but just asking.....

btw.... just in my block alone there's five Tacoma truck owners 2017+ and we're all asking the same thing..

Every one is defective, but that doesn't mean it will fail. It can fail.

You get it replaced to lower the chances of a failure. But it could last another day or for the life of the vehicle. Just play it safe.

I haven't gotten a call or taken mine in yet, but I know my dealer is working on them. I'll let them get some practice before they do mine.

My bussies 2018 failed and took 4 weeks for the dealer to install. I have an 17 but haven't heard that mine is going to be recalled. Is this an official recall yet?

I had mine replaced last week. Took about 2 hours. Then went to Costco and bought new tires.

I got a recall letter in January, I wonder why the inconsistency there? When I talked to the service department at my dealer they had a number of cars and trucks on the list that people had brought in because they felt unsafe driving them until the recall was fixed so they are given dealer loaners or rentals. One of them that was brought in was a landcruiser, I asked what they gave them and they said a Highlander lol. I am guessing they will try to work on the backlog of vehicles in the lots first before people who continue to drive on the recalled pump, just to save some money on rentals or miles on loaners.

People look at recalls all wrong. Recalls are actually a good thing. Here's why. The manufacturer is acknowledging that a part has a higher probability of failure than normal and they are providing a proactive remedy, for free. It most certainly does not mean that the part will fail tomorrow just because they announced they found a defect and/or design flaw.

My 2016 went through the rear diff recall. My dealer found it was seeping but it would still be two weeks before they got parts in. I asked them "I'm planning on towing my camper to Tennessee to see the eclipse this week, is it still safe to do so?" They said sure, no prob. They'll put it on the schedule to fix as soon as I get back. I took that trip without worries because I knew the recall had any potential failure covered. Same thing with the fuel pump. I didn't worry about it and got it fixed at the dealer's convenience. Recalls are like a bonus warranty. That's how they should be viewed.

I have owned cars before where the manufacturer knew it was a problem. Had an Explorer with a sticky solenoid and would refuse to start sometimes, but only if the temperature/humidity was at just the right combo. The dealer said it was a well documented issue. But there was no recall. If I wanted it fixed, it was out of my pocket. When the manufacturer pulls shenanigans like that, (RE: It took ford/firestone several years before they started recalling tires, even though they knew there was a problem), THATS when you lose confidence. Not the other way around.

1029200617_resized.jpg Yes, official recall. Dealer charged Toyota $405.38 for repair.

There is parts for the 19. Had mine done a couple of weeks ago.all the same pump. But because they just added a new batch of build dates you are at bottom of list. All the people that have been waiting a year since being notified are being serviced first.

You will get a letter. 2 choices. Wait it out. Or spend $200 and buy the parts which are readily available online and do it yourself in the driveway.
