If there are fender flares on the 01-04, it will have square holes in them to hold the flares.

No, some of the 5-lug base models have smaller fenders. I can’t tell you which ones though.

1st gen - it's got a built engine, a turbo, and waaaaaaay too much to list. 3rd gen - basic-bitch lift, S/C, Pro Wheels
The fenders will bolt up just fine. There is a bracket that is specific to which fender you choose though. 01-04 fenders are the same except some prerunner\4wd models have holes for the flares. ALL 01-04 trucks have flared fenders. The 5 lug trucks had no flare option (except the s-runner) and the prerunner\4wd trucks had flare options. So there are 2 different flared fenders, one with holes, and one without.

Yes they are. You just gotta change the support bracket near the corner light. I've done it on my 2000 5-lug. When I bought it it had 1 flared(prerunner\4wd) fender and 1 non flared (2wd) fender. The seller gave me 2 fenders with the truck so that I could make them match which ever route I chose. I went with 2wd non-flared since it made the truck look lower even though my truck is a mid year change over and had flared fenders (like the 01-04 5 lugs). All you had to do was changed out the support bracket since the fender is physically narrower or wider depending on which fender you choose.

Pre-mid year change over in 2000 ALL 2wd 5 lug trucks had the non-flared more flat looking fenders, but all prerunner\4wd trucks had flared fenders, more rounded and bulgey. Some of those then also had fender flares attached.

Customtacos.com is the go-to source for 5lug knowledge. Fender swapping has been popular over there for a very very long time.

Oh, almost forgot, if you have one fender type and change to the other you also have to change your corner lights. 4wd corners are pointier at the top outside corner and won't fit in a 2wd fender...unless you're like me and are a little handy with a Dremel. They don't make blacked out corners for 2wd fenders anymore so I had to do a lil custom trimming. Lol

Simply put, yes. Just also have to change the support bracket if you change style.
