Why when I fill my tank my range was 360 miles now only 280 range?

I was getting about 360 mile range per tank. Just got back from a 1,000 mile trip. The last 3 fill ups the dash is reading 260 range per tank. Does anyone know why this might happen? Any knowledge of this situation would be great full.

    Oh look, another mod....
The range per tank always fluctuates and is NEVER accurate. If you want to reset it back to 360, just disconnect your battery cable for about 2 - 3 mins then reconnect it.

Because its an unreliable POS tech that uses a crappy algorithm to determine mileage.

What else gets reset if you disconnect the battery for 2-3 minutes?

Dude.. don't disconnect your battery for this.. it's an adaptive thing.. it will constantly change with your driving habits. Going on road trips etc will alter it

Get a yellow sticky and write 360 on it and stick it to your dash if that will make you feel better. What you are seeing is a computed estimation on tank mileage based on how you drive. The more you drive, the more accurate this estimation gets.

PS: yes, do not disconnect your battery for this. That was stupid advice.

mine went from 375 to 295 after 10,000 miles. i think it's because i never let the tank become empty before refueling. it doesn't make sense.

Why is mine always stuck at 411 after fill up? It ain’t adaptive like most people

If you consistently drive the same route and driving style then it won't really change because the data it is based off is remaining consistent.

Only aesthetic mods so far Leer 180 cap & Clazzio covers on order.
When it comes to Distance until empty, this is the ONLY gauge that matters:

Anything else is just a calculated estimate.

    365 (miles) divided by 18 (gallons) = 20.4

That's how I calculate... your calculation may differ.

Full tank on highway, full tank city, full tank 0-2500’ elevation it’s always the same.
Is the calculation done in the headunit? I changed that out long before I paid attention to the remaining miles thing.

I don’t know why anyone even looks at the miles to empty thing and especially can’t understand why anyone would depend on it. No matter what they they are inaccurate, in a sense they are useless. Excellent way to run out of gas and get stranded. Just watch your fuel gauge and when it gets low , gas up. If you want to know your mileage fill your tank, drive, then fill it again, divide gallons into miles = accurate mpg.

I played with it and found the distance to empty was always at 0 miles before the gas light would come on. I would never rely on it either but it seems Toyota built in a safety margin to prevent idiots that rely on it from running out of gas.
