We were talking full-sized beds. Even then he was taking what I said a bit out of context just to be smug.

Snow and UV are the biggest 2 reasons why the truck goes inside for me. Anyone who says "trucks belong outside" are ignorant to the fact that even trucks need pampering to last decades

Fair enough. So useless was more opinion based. The DCSB fits the bill for me. Random weekend warrior projects and necessary materials are hauled easily since my drive to Home Depot is maybe 5 miles.

But yea, the DCSB wpuld likely leave much to be desired if you consistently do huge projects. For the 5 times a year I need any real building supplies, it fits the bill.

However, if money was no option and i had a bigger garage I would buy a Tundra just cuz the bigger cabin is nice.

You can get a decent 5x8 utility trailer for like $600, and that'll haul lumber/drywall/plywood/etc. better than ANY mid or fullsize pickup bed. Last weekend I picked up a dozen 4x8 sheets of 23/32 plywood, and six 2x10x12' boards in one trip with my wife's MINIVAN, because it was towing the trailer. Does that make a minivan "better for hauling materials" than an F150? No, but it means I know how to use the right tool for the job (trailer, not a truck bed).

The 5' bed is perfect for how most people use midsize pickups; to haul big boxes (appliances/tvs/whatever), coolers, camping gear, or some bikes. I can't think of any situation where I'd rather have a 6.5' bed on a truck that's stuck in my driveway than the 5' bed on a truck that stays in the garage (and just hook up the trailer when I need to haul materials).

You know what's better than a trailer for the occasional home depot trip?

Using that 3-5K to pay for a new kitchen instead of the trailer, that's what :D.

If you are paying $3k-$5k for a $600 trailer, then that kitchen will probably cost you more like $40k.

Around here you can't even buy a quad trailer for $600.

Maybe you could get a kijiji box trailer that will cost you 1K-2K to repair for 0.6K.

I just had a quote on a new kitchen. INSTALLED (ie I do no work) it was anywhere between 6K to go cheap and 15K to go with solid everything. $4K goes a long way.

Anyways my point is that a Tacoma is not nearly as good for the odd home depot run as the F150, or any fullsize, if you need to grab a sheet of anything. The wheel well spacing sucks. I've never had a need for a trailer for my F150 and if I do I will borrow one from a friend and not have to worry about the tow rating on my vehicle or overheating the transmission if there is a good headwind.

This 5x8 utility trailer is $598 at my local Lowes, with Lowes card:
    http://www.lowes.com/pd_100369-15476-5X8G___?productId=3005264&pl=1&Ntt=utility+trailer

I paid a bit more to get high sides and a treated lumber floor, but those aren't strictly necessary. 4x8 sheets don't require any securing in the trailer, whereas even a 6.5' bed F150 requires you to secure the load (since you have to leave the tailgate down). The time to hitch the trailer is less than the time required to secure the load in the pickup bed (although either takes a negligible amount of time).

No one is overheating their transmission hauling a 3500# gross utility trailer, even if they are pulling it with a Chevy Cruze.

There are plenty of valid reasons to get an F150 over a Tacoma (torque, luxury amenities, big fuel tank, more features for $, you actually need to tow heavy, etc), but weekend shopping isn't one of them.

i have no facts or evidence either, i just keep track of trends of whats good and buy that.

I've had american cars in pasts, after 50k, it starts to fall apart. i started to buy honda/toyotas, lexus. better reliability. and now, when i buy hondas and toyotas, i beat them to hell and they still last longer(I'm talking about u-joints, ball joints, wheel bearings, sensors, transmissions, weird noises, cel, act)

my friends before had american cars too, hyndais. what have you, their parents too. for the past 5 years. I've been telling them not to go american or hyundia and they have all been happy ever since. they tell me the car is overall more sound even with high miles. those people bought honda, toyota, acura, lexus, infiniti.

the ones who still have american cars are trading in every 50-70k cuz things start to get loose, feels cheap. things fail. cel comes on. ect. <--- this happens to japanese cars too, just not as bad and not as often.

the ones that bought audis and bmw have extended warranty cuz when they need repairs, its often and expensive.

seeing all the above happen, i am more prone to buying a tundra/tacoma(which i did) over american cars. i see the trend n i go with whats good.

I just hate messing with a trailer in general unless it's needed. People on here bitching about how hard it is to park a LB or full size, but no one complains about the PITA of maneuvering/parking a trailer!

And really, who the hell wants to dick around with a trailer for a dozen or less sheets of anything? It can take longer to hook up the trailer than to load the bed and be on your way again. Especially if you're someone that doesn't use the trailer every day so it gets buried behind shit in the back yard. Or has to be dug out of a snowbank in January.

I thought we were still talking box trailers, my bad. If you mean open deck utility trailers than, yes, you can get one around here for anywhere between 1-2K depending on what options you want on it. If I was going to waste money on a trailer for dedicated "utility" tasks I'd want a dual axle enclosed trailer with at least a 6 foot roof. There isn't much you can't move safely with a trailer like that.

I always secure my load. Ever see the damage a sheet of plywood flying out of your open deck trailer could do to another car? Always secure your load. Your trailer probably has mesh sides and is even more vulnerable to the load blowing out at 30 mph or higher speeds due to the buffeting behind your truck.

    Yup.

You should see the JK forums. It's the same way. "Why buy a Tacoma when you can just have a box trailer in your yard"

I'm done because again this is making my head hurt. You contradict yourself constantly.

All I'm saying is, don't make some drive by statement about American cars being horrible without supporting your reasoning like an intelligent adult. Talk about your experience with non-Toyota vehicles.

Making random statements about how crappy American cars are does nothing to add quality to the thread or help someone make an educated decision on which truck to buy.

I agree. I personally don't like trailers if I don't need to mess with them. I bought a truck for a reason. If I just needed something to tow a trailer I would get a mini van, because you know, them things can store the mufucking world.

Driving around my crew cab and 6.5ft bed is nothing. I don't like adding the trailer onto it.

90%+ of fullsize truck owners will never do anything in their truck they couldn't have done just as well (or better) with a minivan+trailer. But people care more about 'image' than utility.
