Fog lights are to help you see better when you drive in poor weather conditions. You don’t drive backwards nearly as much as forwards and when you do it’s much slower and there are reverse lights. Rear facing fogs would just inhibit the driver behind you. And in poor weather you should have your headlights on so your taillights will provide your position to drivers behind you.

The whole reason for fog lights is so they are brighter than your regular lights and are only to be used in certain weather scenarios.

If you have front fogs, rear fogs should be fitted as standard.

Have you ever driven in fog and had a car in front with rear fog lamps? They really help just like fog lamps in front... just saying...

EDIT: Just so you know...the rear fog lamp is not for reversing its so the car behind can see you clearly. Rear fog lamps are red...

Americans don't understand rear fog lights. They're basically just a high filament in the driver's side tail lamp. Seeing one always made me think someone jammed a bulb in the wrong way. Then I had a Porsche Boxster and came to understand what it is. I see people driving Mercedes' in the US that twist the light knob far enough to turn on the front and rear fog lights, but they probably have no idea what they're doing.

Just give it some time. When someone is driving not paying attention and on their phone and slams into the back of a minivan with a family of 7 in in. During dense fog, and the gas tanks explodes killing the entire family. The defense will site the dangerous fog as the issue and argue that the DOT or Gov failed to prevent such an occurrence. Then someone from one of the family will then become an advocate, for the Gov to make it a law requiring this now become a standard feature. Then the rest of the manufacturers will join Audi, Volvo and other German/Euro companies to make this standard. Also raising the price of vehicles even more than today’s outrageous prices.

I initially thought WTF, just like everyone else. But after reading the OP's supplied link, I can see where this would be useful in fog prone areas especially.

Have you ever driven behind one when not needed? It's forken annoying.
We don't have them, because driving over here is viewed as right, and the requirements reflect that, therefore the extra knobby thingy is way above our ability to operate correctly.
