Why is the 2024 price more than the 2016?

For shits and giggles I configured a 24 OR with a 6MT and optioned out to how I'd like it and it came out to $52K which is slightly more than I paid for my 22 PRO. Considering how much more truck and features you get, it seems fair to me. For the weirdos like me, a fully optioned out OR is what you need to go with in order to get a 6MT.

I mean, the argument is floating about that electric car prices and sales are dropping because the people who want electric cars have bought them, and maybe bought their second electric car but the rest of America does not want one and will never buy one.

Maybe 1000 lbs of aluminum in a Tacoma. Spot price is around $1/lb. Price increase due to aluminum cost increase, therefore, would be capped at $1000, even if aluminum was free the year before.

What you should be asking is why my TRD OR DC AT cost $36500 in 2023 ($4K dealer discount), but the same configuration in 2024 is almost $50K just a few months later. No point in comparing 2016 to 2024 when you can compare late 2023 to early 2024, especially when inflation is already back down around 2%.

It’s $2000 for every gallon it lost in the gas tank… 3.5 gallons smaller tank = $7000 more for the truck

That's the best explanation I've heard.

OK, things mostly cost more in 2024 than 2016, got it. How much did dynamic cruise control cost in 2016? 14" tablet? LED headlights? Some features have got cheaper too. Not convinced that I4-turbo is more expensive than NA-V6. Losing one head and set of cams, pistons, rods etc. versus adding one turbo. Huge inflation since 2021 has outpaced wages for most, CPI is a fraud that excludes food and energy prices, trucks are less affordable, and Toyota have ascended to the most expensive. It is what it is. Nice to see full size pricing under MSRP. Midsize is a tough sell at MSRP.

I don’t think Toyota will be immune to what is happening in the vehicle market.

I never thought I’d see new C8 Corvettes selling below MSRP. But it has started, finally. Too late for me though. The Corvette shenanigans turned me off to them.

Same could happen for the new Tacoma, Lexus GX, Land Cruiser and 4Runner. Toyota suddenly thinks money grows on trees.
