Why is one wheel always at low psi even after new tires?

Just before I got new tires I noticed my back left tire would be low a few times at 17 psi where all the other would be around 32 psi where I want them. I figured that one must have a small leak and that my new tires would fix that. Just got these kendas on a few weeks ago and I noticed the same back left wheel was at 8 psi this morning! Suppose to be at 38ish. So I’m a little confused since it can’t be the tires. Do the valve stems go bad over time? What else am I missing. Hoping it’s just a silly fix. Thanks gentlemen.

it could be a crack or deformation in the wheel or the valve stem. The tire shop should diagnose it for free if you tell them it has a slow leak.

You should get new valve stems with new tires. The problem may be the wheel, not the tires.

New tires should get new valve stems.
Ask to have the bead seatings deburred, cleaned and polished as well.

Do the tires need to be removed for this or is this something I can do myself

Tires have to come off rims to replace valve stems and clean bead surfaces

New tires on old wheels, and the problem persists, even worse, I'd say wheels.

Lovely. Now I have to find a shop that won’t mind working with wheel spacers. Thanks for the info.

Discount tire said they can do all 4 for $20. That sound right? I was expecting more.

Spray some soapy water on the valve core and look for bubbles. The little core can be easily swapped out

Also the rubber seal at the base of the stem can leak. Parts stores should have a "TPMS service kit" that comes with the nut, washer, rubber grommet and new valve core.. usually just a few bucks

before you throw parts at it, tell them you have a slow leak and let them dunk it in their tank to identify the actual problem. They shouldn't charge you to diagnose it.

but $5 ea sounds good for parts and labor

What @b_r_o said! I sprayed Windex on my valve and instantly saw bubbles when I had this issue

Oops just realized I'm in the 1st gen section.. no tpms seals to replace. If the valve stem is leaking just replace it.

Tire shop shouldn't even have to re-balance the tire, just pop the bead and sneak a new stem in there

Just had discount tire do them for $20 and the mechanic said they did look pretty old so that’s a relief. My buddy’s shop was suppose to replace them when the tires went on but I guess they forgot. Will update if the problem persists. Thanks gents.

Got back home yesterday to find my front right tire at 10 psi but the back left is holding fine now as well as the other two. They weren’t supposed to rotate them.
    The mystery continues…..

You might want to install a ring camera to catch the valve stem gnomes that are pranking you at night.
