Why is it so hard to find a toolbox for a double cab?

I have already bought two different tool boxes trying to make them work on my 02 double cab and neither one seems to fit properly. Those of you with 1st gen double cabs, is there a tool box out there that sits flush or below the bed rail with substantial storage? Thanks

I got this one at Walmart for 200ish shipped. It's ok. You really can't put much in it. I am afraid to overfill it and interfere with the latch and lock mechanism. I wouldn't mind it if it was deeper even though I'd sacrifice bed space in my already small bed. I am curious to see what other peoples experiences are on double cabs. I originally wanted one flush with the bed but the price was right on this one so I took the bait.

I just found this one, seems like the dimensions are close, the only thing is it may stick up about an inch higher than the bed rails.

I have the same toolbox now but am considering returning it. I like the way yours looks in black, I got mine at Lowes and all they had was the polished one. I didn't like the way it went passed the edge of the bed, but again in black, looks soo much better.

I read somewhere you can rhino line or line x tool boxes. I thought it would be cool to try. The lid of my box is a little flimsy and I probably wouldn't sit on it. I originally considered it when I first started looking for tool boxes. May not make sense financially to sink more money into a low end tool box like mine but you would change the color if you didn't like the polished finish. Just my 2 cents worth.....

What a about a smaller over the bed rail box that would sit on the floor and over the wheel wells? Maybe one from an early toyota? My buddy did that with my old box in his chevy.

Ross, do you have other pics of your truck to see how the toolbox looks?

I did the same thing on a 87 chevy shortbed. Whats hard about these is that the fender wells go all the way to the front of the bed leaving very little room to work with, but this would be ideal if we could find one...

that one fits perfect width wise, just a little too tall for what I want...

These are the only 2 I could find on my phone. I will see if I have more. I originally didn't want one that sits on the bed rail but I don't mind the look now.

Looks awesome. Whats nice about this style is you still have decent bed room.

If you don't mind me asking, what did they charge you for the bed liner?

It was actually free via the previous owner. Which is cool because that would have been one of the very first things I would have done to it. It has a little bit of liner chipped off by the tail gate but it seems to be holding up really well other than that.

I am actually pretty happy with the lack of bed space even with the tool box. I can move some furniture and stuff if I really want to but it's small enough that friends won't ask me to help them move....

Where do you live? I have a low profile Husky tool box that you can try out on your rig if you want to see how it fits.
