    Thats funny!

I am in tucson and i ordered it from that store. they are currently giving me the run around saying a odyssey is all they can get but they have to order it from the dreaded warehouse...

The company does not seem like its playing with a full deck

    I am fine with that.

perhaps its the batteries plus i am working with.

I looked through your posts and saw that you are in Tucson, so I searched Tucson Batteries + stores and found that store that showed "limited quantity", whereas the other Tucson stores showed none, so I took that to mean they had 1 or 2. I bought my 31M X2 from my local Batteries + and it was pretty painless except for the cost. Just trying to help out.

    update for everyone:

    • X2 is now changing over to odyssey performance. not the the odyssey extreme that is so close to the x2/northstar
I ended up getting a odyssey performance 27f - VERY PAINFUL PROCESS!

Are you saying that X2Power batteries are no longer rebranded NorthStar batteries?

Will the stock alternator in the 2nd gen (2013 Tacoma) properly charge this AGM battery over time ?

It will, assuming you install a voltage booster from HKB Electronics. Details here:

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/the-northstar-agm-battery-voltage-booster-upgrade.604478/

I opted for the fixed 0.5V booster from HKB, which puts my charging voltage squarely within the optimal range of 14.4-14.8V. Installation of the voltage booster is dead easy, quite literally removing the ALT-S fuse and installing the booster in its place.

The price tag hurts a little less if you factor in the extended service life of a properly-maintained AGM battery. I'm not sure exactly how much longer AGM lasts than lead-acid, but I would hazard a guess at double the lifespan? Perhaps @crashnburn80 can provide some legit data.

The X2 Power Northstars are warranted for 5 years. Northstar specs the float charge life of 12 years, but that isn't cycle use. It is also spec'd for 900 discharge cycles down to 50% of capacity. But I haven't seen any hard data for cycle use lifespan, but 2-3x over a standard lead acid seems reasonable.

Not surprising. EnerSys (Odyssey's parent company) acquired NorthStar a while back.

Disappointing they won't be using the Extreme, but does make sense to not sell a rebranded version of your halo product. Here are the differences:

They're having financial troubles like everyone else. It's tough to keep expensive batteries on the shelf that don't sell well. When they pass a certain date they lose money and it hurts them more. It is what it is.

FWIW - Toyota True Start, 27F lead acid battery waranty is 84 months, 2 yr free replacement, 60 month prorated. Selling for $136.45 in Louisville KY. The True Start battery in my 2015 is 6yrs old and going strong (knock on wood). I would be hard pressed to justify an AGM based on my driving habits and electrical needs. This forum has discussed, ad nauseum, the differences between lead acid and AGM batteries. I think for most drivers, an AGM is more of a want than a need. (but if you NEED the performance offered by an AGM - buy it)

I've been using AGM in my motorcycles for several yrs., mainly because in some of my bikes you need to take half the bike apart to check the water in a lead acid. I really haven't seen they last much if any longer. I haven't read the directions for maintenance of a AGM, just thought there was none since you aren't supposed to deal with the water. Guess I need to do some reading about maintaining the AGM. I didn't even know there was any more performance from the AGM, on the bike batteries the AMP & CCA are the same as a lead acid

AGM batteries are sealed and maintenance free, which is one of their advantages over lead acid.
