Why have the cost of Tacomas skyrocketed lately?

I know inflation is rampant but why have Toyota trucks skyrocketed ahead of the curve? I’d like a new one but don’t want to pay a new price for a used one.

I realize this is not for everyone but I just recently bought a ‘18 TRD OR DCSB in cement off of Copart. Had a slight fender bender on the left rear. Replaced bedside, bumper and taillights and it’s good as new. For someone like me that has more time than money it’s a decent option. It’s a really clean southern truck with just over 100k on it. I’ve currently got just over 20,000 in it. Been a decent deal so far.

Because certain officials have forced toyota and other manuf to build electric vehicles that nobody wants. They are losing big money over this and jack up the prices of the desired gas vehicles to help with the loss. This domino effect extends down the used car market. The higher the fan base like tacomas the higher the deliberate rise of prices to offset the loss

Early adopter syndrome but in reverse.

Many people don't want a smaller turbo motor, and the styling looks like the remains of a transformers fight. Rising used prices would indicate that just as many people were happier with the outgoing model than the new model.

I think they kept making the tacoma bigger until it's not much different than the full size p/u. My '23 dcsr already has 12" longer wheelbase than my '68 c10 did. I really liked the size of the '91 s10 I had, I would have held on to it if it didn't have so much rust ( the p.o. launched a lot of boats with it) I wish my taco had that 4L60 tranny. : )

... and forced new tech in to ICE cars to also help save us from ourselves.... can you imagine the shock and horror if a vehicle came out here in the US today with a wire throttle and hand roll down windows, no ABS, no tard spot monitoring camera, and no hidden GPS reporting? (edit: and also the lower cost...)

:)anonymous: buy in a heart beat... Disclaimer: yes, I would have kept the older ones owned if they had not rusted to crap by... salt to save us from ourselves lol)

Scrubbed some tires, and knocked a dent out.
Because people pay it. Because its a pretty much captured market.

Lots of people are continuously rolling over vehicle loans, cashing out retirement savings. Next crash is absolutely going to call attention to these vehicle loans.

Tacomas have historically held their value. Great for owners. Unfortunate for buyers. Just speaks to reliability and demand.

i foresee the new 4th gen’s do just fine in the long run. Hybrid/EVs are in demand. Numbers don’t lie. Just look at other EV trucks like the Ford Lightning. Sold out fast. Times are changing.

Honestly a hybrid makes more sense than a pure electric truck by and large at this point in battery capabilities imo.

meh, they've been calling for the 'next crash' since before the 2009 recession. the same people called the 2009 one, where i lost my job, all my savings, and my car a "speed bump".

i'll believe it when i see it.

Doubt a crash happens again like 2008 or anything of high magnitude. Maybe a slight slow down but rates are on a path to go down in a year or so. Once they do, spending is about to sky rocket even more.

Ford F150 Lightnings are disappearing off the lot not because of demand, but because of diminishing supply.

Ford lost almost $130,000 PER EV in Q1 2024.

Ford's "Model e" (EV) division reported a net revenue of $100,000,000 in Q1 2024, which sounds great on the surface. But that's actually an 84% decrease compared to the same period from last year.

People aren't buying EVs in the numbers expected. At least they're not buying Ford EVs. Which is why Ford is slashing production of the F150 Lightning, moving half of its production crew to other plants, and encouraging many of the remaining workers to take early retirement.

I am not bashing EVs. In fact, my other vehicle is an EV. But EVs aren't for everyone. They are fine if your commuting distances are short and there are plenty of charging stations around. But there is no way I would have a pure electric truck as my only vehicle. Not enough charging stations in areas where I'd want to take a truck. And the government-sponsored push to get everyone in EVs by 2030 or whatever is bordering on totalitarianism. Let people buy and drive what they want...not what the government forces them to.

    /end rant

Edit: I just found this: Biden's $7.5 billion investment in EV charging has only produced SEVEN charging stations in TWO YEARS. When it comes to wasting time and money, no one does it better than the federal government.
