Holy smoke - A supercharged V-6 with a 6 speed manual, bigger brakes, lowered 1-inch, stiff shocks and added suspension bracing? WTF

Saw few pictures of one, and in the middle of the back seats is a big X-shaped box with a blue button inthe middle. What is that thing? What doe it do?

"Key differences between the X-Runner and the other packages include tweaks to the suspension, hood scoop, ground effects kit, driving lights, sports wheel and tires, and a 3.15 final drive ratio (3.73 for V6 PreRunner and 4X4). Toyota added a rear-mounted X-Brace to stiffen up the rear end (hence the name X-Runner). The chassis was further stiffened by adding two more support braces to the frame. An optional big brake kit by TRD is also available on the X-Runner; which consists of a 332 mm slotted rotor and 4 piston caliper. The BBK (big brake kit) was designed by StopTech. To further its track and sport appeal, TRD also offered a dealer-installed and warrantied roots-style supercharger which raised the power from 236 to 300 hp (176 to 224 kW) and the torque was raised from 266 to 345 lbf⋅ft (361 to 468 N⋅m). A factory TRD composite spoiler was also an option but originals are rare. The X-Runner comes only with an Aisin RA60 6-speed manual transmission."

These things are very rare and you can pick them up for only $20,000 or so. Seems like this would be like picking up an early 1970s Mustang or Challenger back in the day for a few hundred bucks when nobody wanted them.

If I wasn't sick to death of shifting my manual with my bad knee I would be all over trying to find one of these.

Does anyone out there in Tacoma World own one of these unicorns?

Yeah, they're pretty sweet trucks, especially supercharged.

The X-shaped box thing is a sub and it goes allows you to thump and bump to the beat of the mersic

More differences led to believe. One which I'm running on my truck is the oil pan, upper and lower out of an xrunner to make room for my SAS

    It's a secret
So have you figured out yet as to why you've never known about an X>Runner Taco?

I have a guess for you...

No one wanted them here (canada) when the 2.5's came we barely sold 2.

People want full back seats, 4x4, and auto transmissions. X runner was none of those.

I hated driving them, super bouncy and unpleasant. I imagine smooth roads are required. I'd rather have a miata lol.

Edit why is this in 1st gen?

Search up S Runner for 1st gens!

The reason these trucks are rare is that the X-runner came stock with Adamantium frame, Bub.

That's X thing is a factory sub? Damn I like these things even more. $23,000 and it won't fall apart like a plastic Dodge Charger or one of those new Camaros you have to lean back and slide into because they made the damn roof too low. Mark my words, in 20 years the Xrunner will be like a Shelby 500 Mustang and everyone will wish they had bought one instead of some moronic Mustang with really loud pipes. Same money today, but in a few years the Xrunner will be worth twice as much

I remember when these were new on the lot. I always liked them, but I never had a use for a slammed truck.

All the options ie: supercharged, BBK kits were all options but we’re never included unless you added them at the time of purchase then they would install them. if you added stoptech brakes and a magnuson s/c you would have the same setup on a X-runner or regular Tacoma. None the less they were cool trucks.
