Why don't light bars have covers?

Back in my day, off road lights had to be covered else you would get a ticket. In the past year I've been seeing more and more people driving around with light bars on.

Is there anywhere that police still enforce this?

I have a buddy in the bay area in CA that got written up as an add-on to a speeding ticket. I don't think it's worth the hassle for police, just something to add to the bill when you get stopped for something else.

In California off road lights must be covered while driving on a highway, as defined in section #24411 of the California Vehicle Code. The California Vehicle Code also defines auxiliary driving lights under section #24402 as not needing covers.

some states but not all require Black light bar covers. Check your states laws. Besides staying legal, covers extend the life of your light bar by preventing oxidation on the clear lens from UV sunlight. Also covers keep your lens clean.

In British Columbia offroad/driving lights must have opaque covers when not in use. In neighbouring Alberta there is no such law. CVSE/RCMP like to put inspections on the Trans-Canada Hwy and write tickets to all our visiting oil patch friends.

In PA they enforce it. I'm in the same boat. However I recently saw that cali raised has a premium roof rack that has an option to raise the wind deflector over a light bar. I Might pick that up instead of a prinsru.

I’ve lost track of how many times I’ve been blinded by dumbasses driving around with their light bars in the city and on the highways.

I was driving on the 24 back from the grocery store and there was a Tacoma, of all things, with a light bar going across the grill that was so blinding I had to flip up my mirror despite it going through a snug top and the rear glass.

What area are you in where they enforce it? They don't in SW PA. Never seen anyone here with a lightbar (and the few trucks I've seen with a-pillar lights, maybe 50/50) covered.

    https://www.pacodeandbulletin.gov/D...ode/data/067/chapter175/s175.66.html&d=reduce

Here's the code, I'll quote the relevant section:

Required to be covered and have an illuminated switch.

That being said, I have had staties attempt to ticket me for my Cibies before. Currently have my SS5s mounted behind my grille, but they'll be out in the open once I have the time to mount my bumper and we'll see what happens. The other stupid thing is the candlepower limit l, at 150kcd for all forward lighting combined. But they don't carry light meters.
