Why not just have On? What does Acc accomplish that On doesn't, or can't be wired to accomplish?

It allows you to have your radio and cigarette lighter outlet powered on without having the engine running or having all the engine sensors and ignition coils and engine computer powered without the engine running. They could have just had the radio powered all the time even with the key out, but then people might leave the radio on by accident and drain the battery.

A simple way to think about it is ACC powers the body harness, while ON powers the engine harness and body harness.

ACC is super convenient for diagnostic where you need ignition power but don't want the fuel pump and engine stuff going the whole time. As well as its intended purpose, of course, which is to run ACCessories without the need for starting the engine, but still requiring affirmative action to pull power from the battery, which can leave you stranded if you aren't careful.

Legacy thing from when vehicles had points in a distributor, if the points were closed and you turned the key to on, you had power through the points and they would burn up.

I don’t think new vehicles have an acc position, just on. My VW is that way with push button start.

I know that at least new Toyotas and Jeeps have ACC. You just push the start button without pressing the brake and it goes to ACC. To turn on the ignition without starting the engine you press and hold the button without applying the brakes.

I thought his username looked familiar.

Some questions I understand, and other times I think "is this the OPs first time even sitting in the driver's seat of a vehicle?"

I wouldn’t worry about the acc issue, it’s just the way it worked when new. Doing away with that acc option isn’t worth bothering with.

My 63 has no seatbelts, no airbags, no abs, no fuel injection, no sensors, no cel, no headrests, no collapsible steering column, no locking steering column, drum brakes all around, single master cylinder. It is what it is, as is your Tacoma.

Good opportunity to learn how to read a wiring diagram.

Unfortunate; manuals are the best place to get answers.

Unless you want to rely on internet randos

    your right.

so far majority of the folks on here with input seem competent, at least from what they type. I know at some point though gotta hit them books. regardless your right, if you want something done you better be willing to put some effort in

For me its about 2 things - I may not always have access to a place like this and I hate relying on other peoples generosity to go dig through a book to answer some obscure question. If its opinions and off-the-top-of the head knowledge thats one thing, but I'm not going to expect someone to dig through a book for an hour to figure something out for me.

Toyota EWD`s are some of the easiest to use I have every used.

You want to see difficult look at schematics for a manufacturing line if your not used to them.
