Why are "Raptor lights" a thing?

Since the 2022 Tundra has them, they can now be called Tundra Lights.

 

I snicker now when Rav4 and Crosstreks are driving around with Raptor lights.. Bring back visors with clearance lights next.

 

Yesterday I saw a truck with 7 or 8 with a mix of amber and white. Was a 3rd gen taco

too many

 

Back in the day I believe they called them: "ICC Clearance Lights" on the options list and they were amber and located on the roof of a pick-up truck or tractor in a configuration group of: 1-3-1. They were standard on some pickups (70's-80's) and I believe optional add-ons as well. You commonly see them on over-wide vehicles (80") and dual rear-wheel pickups for that reason. Five amber lamps facing forward spaced out 1-3-1 and five red facing rear lower on the vehicle: 1 at each rear corner and 3 in the middle. The Raptor actually has this set-up of 5 amber lamps visible forward: three on top of the grille and one on each fender flare to mark the front corners of the truck. Required because of it's width: 86.6" (without mirrors). I would assume they have red clearance lamps on the back of the Raptor as well.

 

Everyone hating on the grills with amber lights, post up your grill. Put ur money where ur grill is cool guys

ps my stock grill was sad and had slight damage that I couldn’t bare to look at anymore lol

 

I wasn’t hating on it. Just think it’s a little funny like it wants to eat you.

I also hope people do the things they do for themselves and not anyone else.

like i think the raptor lights are silly as fuck, but I would never shit on anyone for it.

It's a grille. That has no lights.

 

Is my grill cool? It doesn't have any lights in it.

 

I think if you have some other lighting you can use Raptor lights to tie into the theme.

For example, my truck has Amber DRL's, Amber Backlight on lightbar, fogs, ditch lights, so adding amber raptor lights tied everything together for me.

It's the stock trucks with mis-matched raptor lights that drive most of us crazy.

 

"The Raptor is eighty inches wide, then it means by federal law, the truck must be equipped with additional lights to let people know that there is a wider truck coming towards them. These lights can be anywhere on the truck, but Ford had chosen to put them in the grill to make the car look much better."

 

It adds brightness on the road specially when its raining. It served mine with a purpose other than its a fad.
