Why are leather seats getting a lot of hate here?

I completely agree that leather can look good for years if maintaned properly. Clean, condition and protect every couple months and it will look great for decades. Part of my job is dealing with upholstery so i know.

The bolsters in a tacoma are synthetic, the only "real" leather is in the middle of the seat.

My seats after 2 years, look brand new.

I always buy vehicles with leather, it’s so easy to clean/maintain and looks good.

My 20 year old Miata interior still smells like leather.

Yeah, i try to not to rub on the bolsters too much when getting in or out. I though about getting some seat covers but i dont do construction anymore and im pretty careful nowdays. Plus, i love how the seats look.

It’s just personal choice. I love leather seats, but I’m afraid that with my pooch and his snaggle nails, he would tear them up too quickly. My cloth with color matched stitching aren’t too bad (for now). Once they get tore up, I’ll probably give katskinz a call.

Another reason leather is great, doesnt hold the smell. Cloth seats need to be professionally cleaned every few months, only then they will look and smell great. I cleaned my seats using hot water extraction every few months in my ranger and they looked brand new for a 11 year old car. Leather, takes me 10 mins and all done. Also, dont need to wait for seats to dry.

My Liberty CRD Limited has leather seats. I slid around on them when I went off road in it. You gotta buckle in tight and hold on. The seats don't hold your but in place over rough stuff

It's not necessarily the material of the seat that makes a good seat, it's the bolstering that's supposed to hold you in place.

Ya know, I’ve had several vehicles with sunroofs and my Tacoma is by far the most usable and fun. Just the sunroof open itself and you don’t get the buffeting or heavy wind noise that I’ve had in previous cars but open the sliding back window and you get a great flow through breeze. I use it all the time it’s sunny. I didn’t think I would use it as much as I do.

Thanks man. I never even thought of the dog thing. I would definitely have to use a cover or have cloth.

They were not bolstered high. Mostly flat for comfort while cruising and easy to get in and out.

The leather was a bit slick too

That's interesting. My Jeep had a sunroof and I did like it. But it would be too much wind noise and all to drive faster than say 45mph. I had some leaks too.
Yesterday I drove home with the windows in the truck down and the back window open. It was great. A good movement of air and much less noise and all. This is my first truck coming from cars and SUVs. Don't think I will miss the sunroof with that power rear window.
