Why are leather seats getting a lot of hate here?

I was browsing old threads and I can't help getting the impression that a lot of people who use their Tacomas for off-roading or else kinda hate leather seats.

I've always own cars/SUVs with leather seats, or at least imitation leather. My logic is that cloth surface is much harder to clean, and with leather I can just wipe things down, except ventilated seats with perforations. That's my hypothesis to why both 4runner TRD Pro and Tacoma TRD Pro do not offer ventilated seats.

I'm new to off-roading, so maybe I'm missing something that makes cloth better suited?

The initial leather that came with the 2016 limiteds is the complaint, the waffle style leather wasn't for everyone.

Lots has changed, and sports often come it as an upgrade now. No one is complaining.

I think getting in an out of a vehicle that has dust/dirt/mud on the seat causes a lot of abrasion that absolutely kills leather.

Idk, I could be wrong. I have leather covers and I haven't had an issue yet. Only had them for about 6 months though

I don't personally know about Tacoma leather but in general I prefer cloth seats.
Leather gets too hot or too cold plus when it tears it's an expensive fix, working in construction I've never had leather seats that lasted more than 5 years (hell my wife's leather seat already has a tear in it after 18 months). Cloth seats if you mess them up you can get a complete set for less than $300.

For off-roading I would hate them. I used to slip in my M3 seats all the time. Loved them in my outback. All depends on what you are doing. For a daily I would say do it, but if you are planning on off-roading??? Meh, up to you.

I don’t especially like leather, it gets too hot in summer and too cold in winter. Cloth isn’t as bad in this regard.

I don’t really own leather anything anymore. It seems like old school low tech. I’ve always assumed it is sold on luxury vehicles only to make the vehicle appear luxurious to the lady you are trying to impress similar to the effect of wearing a fur vest with no shirt.

Quite a few things at this point..
I have leather and I love it. Have only had my truck for a year now, but the leather all still looks new. I do take good care if it though by cleaning and conditioning it roughly once a month since I do a lot of offroading.

Because we are all naturalist tree huggers here. We hate on animal based products.

Plus no one likes wet cow when they are submarining their truck.

I am in Canada. Definitely dont want leather in the winter. Prefer cloth....Tacomas in Canada get standard heated seats even on cloth which is nice.

I assume most know that only the bolsters are leather on the Tacoma "leather" seats. The actual seat bottoms and backs aren't leather. I like them though and is one of the reasons I chose the premium package.

I like leather. People who say they are too hot or cold don't know about seat heaters or air conditioning. It takes a whopping five minutes to heat or cool.
