Who makes pre-cut, unassembled plate bumpers I can weld myself?

Hello, I've built plate bumpers before, but I noticed Relentless Fabrication offered a DIY kit for people to assemble themselves. Precut and Preformed. Do any other companies do that? I don't mind welding but after building a plate bumper for my last truck, i'd just like to do that instead of trying to come up with a design that I may or may not be sure of until I put it together.

And a DIY kit is cheap and easy to ship. So who else does this? I wanna see what other options I have.

CBI does for some of their bumpers.

Honestly, I would think that quite a few, if not most, of the well known vendors here would send them to you precut if you talked to them about it.

northwest trail innovations makes a kit thats really inexpensive, starting at $360... I'm local to them and have a bumper kit being made right now.

I have been looking into doing this myself. Mostly for the same reason as you. I designed and built a front plate bumper for a 98 and it was a huge pain in the ass. If I had the time and money to try to design, build, and redesign to make work, I would do it. I would rather just buy one already designed for me that I can weld and prep myself. I like welding, and its cheaper to buy one in pieces then fully finished.

Any pics of someone who has put together a bumper of this kind?

Make sure to compare the thickness of the stock that's used. Some vendors use 10ga steel which is about .130". Others use 3/16" (.188").

Here's another option that I did on my last truck: I made a cardboard 3D template out of a big box and a glue gun. Verified the fit by mouting it on the truck to make sure it fit correctly. Took that to a local weld/fabrication shop that has a waterjet and bending press. They bent the basic shape up for me and I welded up the sections out of 3/16" sheet with 1/4" mounts. There wasn't as much welding to do as there would be if each angle was a separate piece. The only completely individual pieces were the end caps. I made both front and rear - won't say what type of truck - it wasn't a toyota. I'll probably do the same again.

Just FYI Relentless is all 3/16". I think he usually has a kit out in a couple weeks. He has to cut it, have it bent, package, and then ship it. But I believe the lead time is like 2 weeks or less.

Relentless just quoted me 5 months +/- for a DIY rear bumper kit :(

edit: they just got back to me and misquoted, the 5 month wait is for fully finished... DIY kits are 2-3 weeks out :)

Well after building a flatbed and a bumper from scratch for my old truck in highschool IMG_20131029_053614_zps81878984_8c0166e4eb5445e6b2dae73e4be57130162208fc.jpg
At least that bumper had a flat top. A Tacoma's got all those curves... and with aftermarket stuff I can see it before I build it.

I kinda shopped around, but didn't find anything outstanding, and really digging relentless fab's designs, so this weekend I'm putting in an order. But I can't leave it as is, gotta throw some custom touches. Maybe some mesh or some gussets. But agreed, I'm thinking relentless fab is definitely the way to go if you can weld it.
