    Hey guys

I need to order a new clutch for my 98 3.4 4x4 and the guys over at toyota don't seem to know what they are talking about.

I love the idea of using the Marlin Crawler kit, but they are out of stock for 2+ weeks and my truck is slipping badly.

I was told by my mechanic that the OEM was made by LUK. I also read online that the OEM was Aisin. Does anyone know who is correct? Also, Toyota doesn't offer a clutch kit. I would apparently need to order everything separately.

    Thanks in advance!

It's likely both. I'm surprised Toyota doesn't have parts, I used to get remanufactured clutches from the dealer for my '91. It's individual parts, not a kit, but it's not hard to figure out: friction disc, pressure plate, throwout, pilot bearing.

Low bidder when contract was let for your run.

Does not mean Toyotas replacement, this many years later, will be made by the same.

I'd order up what you want if you can be creative and get around another way till the parts arrive.

Is there a rent-a-heap type place in your area?

I did the marlin crawler kit in mine and love it. But also priced all the parts just through the dealer at that time as well. From the dealer the parts were more but not that much. Remember to have a good machine shop turn your flywheel if you aren't replacing it. Mine was bad but looked like a mirror when they were done with it

LUK is an excelent Choice for a kit, most Trans. shops use them. before pulling your Transmission out have all your components present, Pressure plate,Disc, throughout Bng. pilot bushing. and a new Flywheel.
In some cases the Flywheel can be machined and be reused, but if there are a lot of miles on it, you may discover cracks from heat and warp-age, dont forgot to look at the Ring gear for chipped or missing teeth.
you dont want to pull this thing back out because of clutch chatter in six months. Has it been machined before? there are limits. Buy your clutch kit from someone who will stand behind it. I lot of clutch Reps will only warranty the clutch if you replace the Flywheel.............Shop around. You donot want to pay to pull this thing out twice. Remember what you told your daughter when she was a teen " when in doubt.. dont "
    Good Luck

I think I am really just unsure if the problem is the clutch. Thats what the previous owner told me, but im not sure. Basically it bogs a lot when I am trying to go up a hill. It seems like I can let the clutch out no problem. And I haven't necessarily experienced it slipping where the RPM jumps up like the car is in neutral. The truck just starts shaking when under load like its not getting all of the power it needs.

If the clutch is going bad it's going to to be slipping, the second I noticed mine slipping it was bad, I babied it and made it a couple more weeks, but in any gear driving if you had stood on the throttle it would have wound up to rev limiter and burned it up. If it's not slipping then I would say you have another problem

Agree it doesn't sound like a clutch with what you describe.

When was the last tune up. Plugs, wires, fuel filter, etc.? Partially clogged cat?

What happens when you try to go hard on flat ground?

What gear are you trying to go up the hill in? Can you try a lower one?

Same here. It's by far the best feeling clutch I've had in a 4x4.
