I am on my second brand new SR tacomas in two years. First one had the white paint chipping problem and blew a headgasket at 10k. Got lucky, Sold to carvana for more than I paid after the warranty fix to get a black SR. Inbetween getting my black one and selling my white one I thought I would give the "new" frontier a shot as I had bad luck with my white SR.

Boy, I thought ford/chevy/toyota dealers played games, nissan was HORRIBLE. Scummy, sketchy and weird. kept showing me rwd vehicles when I said 100000 times 4x4 only. Kept dissapearing in the back FAR more than normal to ask his manager something even when I personally didnt ask a question so I just got up and left. I noticed before leaving that they want 45k for a "pro x" not a "pro 4x" which I think they named it similar on purpose to maybe catch some people off guard thinking the "pro x" had 4x4. I dont care about leather seats and push to start bullshit, 45k+ for a RWD truck is insane to me.

People are actually buying these for that price and not getting 4x4? What a waste.

I think that dealer upped their prices. A fully loaded Pro-4X is usually around 45K and the Pro-X equivalent should be a few thousand below that. Not that $41K-$42K for RWD is much better.

That’s kinda what happened to me at Nissan in 2010 and why I’m driving the Taco. WTF is wrong with some of these salesmen I don’t know. I was looking for a 2wd KC for $16.5. Went to Toyota and paid 18.5 my for RC 4x4. Looking back, the salesman did me a favor.

Sounds like old-school dealer tactics to me. Oldest trick in the book - they try to burn up your day with the "let me talk to my manager" so that you dont have the time/energy to go visit another dealership. They probably set the sticker high so that there is a large margin for negotiation.

I've had two former sales guys tell me to do my negotiating by telephone for those reasons. You learn without spending gas and losing a weekend which sales associates are willing to work for your business and which just want to yank your chain.

I mean, there are worse financial decisions being had in the automotive industry.

Plenty of people pay that for RWD vehicles; some people really don't need 4x4 it's easy as that.

The point being you wanted a 4x4 and it sucks they pushed you on a marked-up RWD. Remind your friends locally not to visit said dealer based on your bad experience.

Well is it really a truck if it doesnt have 4x4? I know thats frowned upon now a days to think like that and be "inclusive".

Yeah it is. A pickup truck has a bed for hauling stuff. If rwd works for someone there’s nothing wrong with it.

I mean, by that logic should we call some 4x4 owners a "name" if they're being outshined in an off-road environment by a RWD vehicle?

It doesn't make it any less of a truck being RWD. It has a bed to haul stuff in, and most will never touch dirt.

Me, I like my 4x4s (had plenty).

If someone wants a 4x2, I'm not going to knock them on it unless they specifically needed it based on driving habits or geographical location where they actually need the capability but passed up on it.

    You're probably the type that'll say "that's not a real car cause it doesn't have a V8"

    Who cares?

Let me ask ya, do you like your new truck?

    And that's what matters!

Run your truck to the ground, wash it every 2 days, anything you want!

It's your truck, enjoy it :fistbump:

But remember, the same way you feel about your truck someone else will feel about that 4x2 Frontier.

By that same metric, is it really a truck if it doesn't pull 53 foot lowboys? :cookiemonster:

I go further off pavement in my 2WD than 98% of 4x4 owners ever will. If I had to buy again tomorrow, I'd still buy a 2WD. I like the couple extra hundred pounds in payload/towing that the 2WD has. I actually use that part more often than I would use 4Hi.

It’s really weird that Nissan made a spiritual successor to the third generation Toyota Tacoma, just as Toyota announced a new generation. But I can dig the simplicity. And apparently they have no problems making an access cab. That has to be worth something.

I’m surprised they were overcharging for them, because even during all the shortages we were having here in California, Frontiers were the only midsize trucks that were reliably discounted, but that’s for the lower trims.

I'm up in snow country Wisconsin. 20yrs ago I switched from a FWD car to a '01 TRD OR and never looked back. 4x4 feels like a must have now.
I drove a RWD s10 as a loaner for one month in the winter. Could not wait to get the Tacoma back.
Needless to say there are plenty of 4x2 here. When I see one in the winter, I wonder why they bought that.
    Everyone's got their reason.
