They are supposed to be the worst year as far as reliability. I have only had wheel bearings go bad at 40K, otherwise rock solid reliability at 77K. What issues were there that garnered this bad reputation and how has your vehicle been?

Never heard it said that 07 were the worst years. The head gasket issue was corrected by this model year

I’ve had three 06 Tacoma’s equipped with V6, one with nearly 200k miles and an X Runner that had seen 145k of hard driving. The third one also had well over 100k and I never had a head gasket issue. Lucky I guess, actually you’ll get a warped view of things here because in reality probably 9 out of 10 owners experienced no problems and they don’t post here, but the few that did show up here bitching. I’m down to my last Tacoma an 07 DCLB Sport that’s currently at 98k miles. Again no head gasket issues. A more accurate and unbiased opinion could be found at NHTSA website checking recalls and service bulletins, it’s all there

It seems like 07 was a bad year for vehicles in general, not sure why but for quite awhile it seemed like we saw more issues and strange/unique problems with 07 model vehicles than other years.

Just bought my youngest son a 2007 Tacoma AC with 176,000 on it. Just put tires on it, oil change and replaced the serpentine belt/alternator. Mechanic said this thing is iron clad so lets see.

Chasing the rabbit down the hole @ NHTSA I found 10 recalls and 516 complaints not counting service bulletins but really what I meant to say is I’ve had great service out of the 06s and 07 Tacoma’s I’ve had.

    Own 3 Tacoma's! 2004,2007,2021
I purchased my 2007 Tacoma brand new. Now, 15 years later and 185,000 miles, I never have had a mechanical issue at all. Electronically the overhead compass and temp went out, and the fan speed electronics was replaced 3 times. I also had to repaint the truck about 5 years ago. It’s been a solid truck! Best Toyota I’ve owned out of 6.

Worst years I heard were the 05-06 early models because of head gasket issues and the 2012.

07 here with 120xxx miles. Bought in 2015 fully stock with 60xxx miles on the dash. Since ownership I've had to change the clutch, rear main seal, serpentine belt, pulleys, valve cover gaskets, front wheel bearings, both upstream/downstream 02 sensors (my fault), both upstream cats (also my own fault)and some other smaller repairs/fixes that didn't necessarily need changing but is better than the oem counterpart.

First year of Secondary Air Injection on the V6 and they had a higher number of issues with that system, other than that nothing.

right, I do recall that being an expensive, problematic part on my 4.7L tundra. was it a carry-over part between the two platforms? Shouldnt most 4.0's have this expensive air pump issue?

I honestly have no idea if its the same pump. The general consensus is to go with a 13/14/15 to avoid injection pump issues. I think they updated the design

Earlier 2nd gens didn't have the pump.

The 2012+ ones all do to an extent but 12 was the worst because they didn't have the shutdown line purge program.
