I just returned home after 3 months. During this time my truck was parked at my mothers house. During a summer heat wave she put a white bath towel on the dash to protect it from the sun.

When I removed the towel there were white spots on the black dash. The spots are more like the white fibers that would be left behind if you rubbed it with toilet paper. I've only owned the truck for 6 months now so I would like to try to fix the problem rather than just cover it up with a dash cover and forget about it.

Is there anyway to fix this or at least make it less noticeable?

So the towel left these spots?? What the heck kind of towels does she have?

If you run a finger over it can you feel any raised texture to it? Like something was left behind?

Best thing she could have done was apply some 303 Protectant to the dash for you. Would have protected better than the towel apparently. :(

The towels were regular cotton bath towels. The texture of the dash feels the same.
    Little white spots

Interesting. I'm presuming you've already tried wiping it down? Wet rag?

You'd want to be careful if you use any cleaning agent as you don't want it to break down any built in sealant on the material itself.

Yep I've tried wiping it down. I think I'll go talk to the dealership tomorrow and see if they have any advice or if it may be covered under the warranty.

It seems odd that a cotton towel would do that.

You could try Goof Off or Goo Gone or whatever. Just don't scrub so you don't ruin the finish.

Did she use the towel from your bedroom? Black light scan?

Your on to something. The white spots are fibers from the towel that are stuck on the dash. Very few came off with a lint roller but when I scratched them gently with my finger nail a small fiber would come loose. Should be a fun weekend......

Mr. Clean magic eraser? Should be aggressive enough to remove the stuck fibers, but soft enough to not scratch the dash.

I will try 303 1st and then the magic eraser if something more abrasive is needed.

Be very careful with the Magic Eraser. It will scratch interior surfaces. I believe another member here scratched up a door panel pretty bad.

Agreed! Magic Eraser is nothing more than a very fine abrasive.
