Thinking about painting or dipping the roof of my black double cab white. Has anybody done this? I really like the look on the old school trucks. Not sure how it will look on a newer one.

Sounds like those FJ's with the white roofs. Personally, I think it looks terrible.

    I second Mr. Eastwood.

Black roof on a white truck is one thing. Not sure the white on black will work. But hey, it's your truck, post up a pic. Worse case, peel it off.

I've had the same thought, hopefully it will make the cab a bit cooler in the summer? I haven't found a source for auto-wrap in an appropriate size though.

Post pics if you do it.

someone here should be able to photoshop that for you. Post a couple of clear pictures of your truck from different views (front, side, rear, maybe one angle?) to give them something to work with.

Have as plain a background as possible. None of the popular artsy stuff like abandoned warehouses or parking garages. Just plain jane, so the truck is the center of attention.

I've thought about this too. Was surprised to find no one on here had done it.

It's your truck, TheDukeOfHurl. If it was my decision, I would go for it. I think you would have a very attractive and unique look. The roof on my truck is white and I think it looks great! Good luck, and post pictures.

I think it'd look like a police truck. I recall seeing a couple of mid 60's C-10s with two tone black and silver/gray that looked pretty sweet.

If you live in a hot climate the difference is noticeable from a practical perspective. A white top on a black vehicle may look a bit odd and the rest being black may cancel some of the effects. All white is even better

Cut & broke off stuff. Prolific ziptie and tape usage.
I sprayed white plastidip on the roof of my black Highlander. Did make a difference in heat, which is what I wanted. But that's a big roof. Not sure if taco will gain much. Kept it behind sunroof and between cargo rails so it's really not noticeable cosmetically. From distance, just looks like glare. Shape of taco roof might make it more visible. Just remember that you don't have to go to the edges. You can tape off.

there is a reason why i bought a light colored truck (silver sky metalic) ... i would of actually preferred a superwhite but that was impossible to fine... needless to say i made the mistake of a black truck once.... and never again.

X2. I had a black tacoma first. Traded it for my silver. Never, ever again. Everytime i see a black vehicle on the road, my eyes are drawn to the spiderwebs in the paint. I was snooping on the dealers lot the other day and saw a nice 2015 access cab sport in superwhite. Im really starting to like the white. How is silver vs white for hiding scratches etc?

I have a white Tacoma and live in South Georgia where it's hot as hell, and just as humid as it is hot. Also, I've had several black vehicles over the years, as well as white vehicles. My experienced opinion on the relationship between temperature and vehicle color is this: After a certain combination of temperature/humidity has been reached, the only way to mitigate the effect is to turn the air conditioner up full blast. At that point, a light vehicle color has little or no effect on felt temperature with the air conditioner on.
As far as scratches/swirls on light or dark colored paint: minor scratches and swirls don't show up as much on light colored paint, but when dark colored paint is properly washed and waxed it is much more attractive than white paint. Dark paint seems to "pop" whereas light colored paint doesn't.

Not that I worry about scratches on my roof but for the member wondering about scratches - white is the best as the clear coat looks white when scratched so they are much less noticeable.
