Rodents might be trying to make a nest, or I think the engine cover has some foam underneath that they may be trying to chew through

Edit - CLEAR IT OUT NOW before they start chewing through wires and cause big damage

Weird. Just had it at the dealership two weeks ago for service and they didn’t even mention it. What’s my best course of action here?

i've had about 20% that much fuzz under the hood one time.....turned out to be a mouse that bit through some wires and POOF.

It looks like there is a foam pad between the engine/plastic engine cover. Is that part necessary/ should I replace it after I clean out the current mess? I’m assuming they’ve chewed through the original foam to make their nest. I can’t seem to find a part number or any info about that foam piece online.

Like others said, it looks like a rodent got in there and starting making a nest out of the engine cover insulation. Pull the plastic engine cover and clean up the sound deadening material. Take immediate action to get rid of those rodents. They can cause massive amounts of wiring damage in a hurry.

Clear it out asap. Rats chewed my injector harness and cost me $750. Put dryer sheets or Irish spring soap bar in the engine bay to keep them out.

That happened to a good buddy of mine. A squirrel had eaten through his entire engine wire harness and knocker sensors. Dealership told him it was gonna be 9K for everything to be replaced, luckily he was covered

You don't need that foam or even the cover itself. The cover is there to look good and the foam is there to quieten down the engine by the tiniest little bit. Rip that crap out and throw it away before they call their friends to move in.

After you clean it up, spray Rust Check/Corrosion Free or Fluid Film type stuff on all your wiring harnesses under the hood.... Mice, etc don't like to eat that shit...… It WORKS...!!

I would get some mouse traps and place them under your truck where you park for a few weeks and see if you can kill the problem. They will likely keep coming back since they already found this new spot to nest.

Thanks guys for all of your help! Glad I was able to notice this today and I will definitely get it cleaned up and check on it regularly so it doesn’t turn into a bigger problem.
