    Could be many things.
Timing Belt Misalignment – If off by a tooth, it can cause a misfire and odd noises.
Tensioner or Idler Pulley Issue – A bad or overtightened component can whine.
Vacuum Leak – A disconnected line could cause a misfire and possible whistling.
Faulty Coil or Plug on Cylinder 4 – If the intake was removed, something may have been disturbed.

Not likely a coincidence—I'd turn right around and have the shop double-check their work.

Popped a cylinder 1 misfire code today… currently waiting for them to check it out…

im disappointed or maybe too anal, ac had a wire pulled, none of the wiring harnesses were reattached, some clips broken and wires left dangling, upper radiator hose put on backwards

I don't think you're being anal about this. I expect mechanics that get my hard earned money to do the job right, and treat my truck like it was their own. Unfortunately this doesn't happen any more. Now days, its get the job done as fast as possible, and if there are a few nuts or bolts left over, well to bad.

By the lack of attention to detail I’m curious if they may be off a tooth

I think whoever did the timing belt replacement did the work on a Friday and then went home early and had a beer.

    Or two.

    Or three

I doubt that the belt and timing gears are a tooth off. IMO the engine appears to run too smoothly to be that.
If the mechanic gives you any shit, look for another. Good mechanics are rare these days

A loose bolt or a connector not clipped back in it's proper place is tolerable. But loose wiring harnesses, broken connectors, and backwards hose installs can lead to disaster: Clear signs that someone doesn't really g-a-s about the quality of their work. If it was my truck, my BP would spike every time I opened the hood and saw the mess.

Make them fix and/or replace everything, especially/including the broken clips. I have disconnected/removed 20 year old electrical connectors from cars and trucks without breaking them; so it can be done.

Shop won’t look into the timing because the misfires aren’t consistent. They said it still does the valve train noise but it’s normal for a truck with that miles…but it didn’t do it before I dropped it off

What is their definition of: "consistent"? The ECU is reporting cylinder misfires... not on just one cylinder, but [now] -two-. What will it take to convince them?... A stored code for all four? Sounds like a consistent warning to me.

How many miles are on the the truck? I'm asking because people have posted videos here of the 2.7L with 300,000 miles on them that didn't sound anything even remotely like that.

Yea as mentioned above. Doubt the timing is off since it idles pretty smooth. If it was me and the shop you took too is not doing anything about it I would take a look myself by removing timing cover and inspecting that area. I would also just look around intake area to make sure nothing is disconnected or any wires damage. If you are not familiar with this motor then it maybe hard to know what you are looking for. I wouldnt trust my truck at that shop anymore. Better off finding a legit mechanic. Good luck

Took it back, they said they will not inspect the new noise coming from behind the timing cover, truck has 187k miles on it. They even refused to install the upper radiator hose correctly or to top off the coolant (which they didn’t do after the water pump change) I’m taking it to my normal mechanic Monday and either going to do a visa charge back or take them to small claims since they don’t want to touch the issue

I guess one of the things that’s really stumping me is it is only between 1600 and 17 hundred RPM where it’s doing the noise below and above that it’s fine. That also seems to be the RPM where each misfire occurs.

You can check the timing with the timing marks. With all their sloppy work I'd guess a vacuum leak and a pulley squeak could be happening.

Is it possible to over tighten the timing belt? The squeak seems to be behind the timing cover at a very specific rpm. They also did the cam seals and stuff too. I’m also going to replace plug wires and see if it helps with the misfire, the plug wires were caught under the timing cover so maybe they tugged on it too hard and it messed up the coil that powers 1 and 4

Not really - it's a hydraulic belt tensioner, ie a fluid / air pressure vessel. Definitely possible to over or undertighten an idler or other pulley though.

The tension was incorrect and the timing belt was not seated correctly and rubbing from the back.

the original shop forgot to put the spacer behind the timing belt tensioner, damaging the tensioner and the belt
The shop that did the work originally is refusing to refund my money because I took it to another mechanic after they told me they were not going to look into it or fix their mistakes.

they had the truck for 5 hours the second time I brought it in and said that an incorrect install cannot cause a whine and that they weren’t going to do the other corrections because the truck was too hot

I’m going to try to do a credit card charge back and if that doesn’t work take them to small claims

A few additions to make me feel cool.
About 4 years ago I paid a little over $10K to have a shop with a very good reputation swap my 5.3 with a brand new crate engine from GM due to having a seized lifter that ate a lobe on the cam. 5 weeks later I get the truck back. Hot summer day and 10 min away from the shop I see that the temp gauge is passing where it should be. I pulled over, let it cool down, turned off the AC and turned the heat on and headed right back to the shop. I walked in and the service writer told me it was perfectly normal and to be on my way. I said, no. It is not normal and I suspect you all replaced the thermostat and the one that is in it is defective and it will cook this engine if I just drive away. Take a look and call me with what you find. When I went to pick it up the next day the mechanic that had just installed the motor came in and said "man I can't believe you were smart enough to bring it back. That Napa thermostat we put in was stuck and you would have fried that motor." Most shops suck nowadays. I actually got a letter from Napa a couple of weeks later stating that the part had been inspected and was defective for whatever that is worth. Long story short, once they have your money they could care less.

Pictures of where it rode incorrectly on the tensioner and scraped the rubber off the belt. Original shop (Gordon’s Family Service Center in Beaufort Nc) is “investigating” but doesn’t want to pay since I didn’t bring it back a third time.

they have till Tuesday before I file at the courthouse for the broken parts, labor, diag at the other shop, and court fees. Currently I’m only asking them back for my money back for labor and the cost of the parts the broke by incorrectly installing
