Considering all options: I am researching which, where and when to purchase tires.

    Considerations:
Performance on varying terrain and conditions. Will be used for backcountry access, overlanding, DD and long-highway travel.

Dealer that offers free mount, balance, rotation for the life of the tire with either purchase of tire or initial mount/balance service.

Best place to purchase regarding complete tire cost (if order from one dealer and then mounty by different shop this adds to cost), warranty handling.

Tire Options: BFG- KO2, Good Year- DuraTrac, Falken- WildPeak, Firestone-?

Size: I like the idea of the 255/85/16 as I can keep stock wheels but 285/70/17 will work. Also 255 should be more fuel efficient, correct? But if not enough choice or too expensive considering everything else then going to a 285 works. I am also open to running the stock tire size for a little while until I see how they are and what I may want/need.

Any of the big places have traditional sale times?

    Rating: C or E?

Here is a few details I know/or have read.

Costco offers the BFG in the 285 size only. Costco is nationwide and offer lifetime rotation/balancing. Downside- very limited tire and size selection.

Firestone- I have read that offers lifetime rotation/balancing and I thought one other benefit, but cannot remember. Don't know anything else.

Discount Tire- Does not have a store in my area where I live currently. But will have one in Utah where I am relocating to in a few months.

This is about the extent of my knowledge on the subject. Would really appreciate any additional help or guidance.

I have the Cooper ST Maxx 285/75/16’s and I love the tires. They have been awesome on and off road. Rain, snow and ice. They have 15k miles on them so far and still look new. I paid 840 for the set out the door.

I know several guys who like to use Discount Tire because of the certificates you can buy for them that replaces the tire if anything happen to it...no questions asked. This is huge for off-roading. I have watched them shred several tires on rocks and not even worry about it.

if you interested in purchasing your tires from Tire Buyer I'll give you my employee discount code. Believe it's 10%

If you have the extra cash BFG's hands down, however Falken are impressive and some including me will say they go toe to toe vs BFG's.
I run them on 265/7017 Standard Load and love them!

Based on the size 255/85R16 there's not plenty of options out there, as for 285/70R17 you have a full library of different tires to search and pick from.

E rated( 10 ply) don't do it, unless you do some crazy wheeling. Standard load & 6 ply (C rated) are great for all around: moderate wheeling, commuting, all season, and gas mileage.

That would make A LITTLE more sense, but barely, right? That's gotta have some type of glare/reflection in the driver's face?!

The experience I had with the Duratracs on a 2 door Wrangler was not good. I stayed with the original size and standard load. They were nearly impossible to balance and keep balanced. Ride was terrible. MPG decreased. I went to Hankook AT’s and loved them for my use. Several reported weak sidewalls in the Duratracs. Coopers and BFG’s were highly rated among the Wrangler owners. I would avoid an E rated tire.

I bought my Hankooks at Discount tire. They tried selling me the tire replacement coverage. I didn’t want it. Must have been a hard day because he talked me into buying the coverage for one tire. That was after I went along with him and asked which of the five tires would be covered. He looked at me and said with a grin the one that is damaged. I took him up on his offer but never used the coverage. I sold the Jeep (the last of 8 Wranglers) and bought the Tacoma.

It’s my Fire Dept response light bar lol

It would be terrible to have an Off Road light bar inside the cab. The flashback glare is pretty bad.

I'm took the original tires off within 3 days and replaced them with the Toyo open country rt's . So far I like them a lot. They are not super aggressive but are much better than stock.
