Which wheel weights are you using for balancing/where do you get them?
such as for aluminum stock wheels

I tried some generic steel wheel weights (clip on) but they wouldn't fit the lip. The shape is different.
At Costco Tire Center they have like 7 color coded baskets based on auto brands for different lip shapes.
I'm not sure what the Toyota ones are called.

I always have Discount tire use stick-on weights on the inside of my wheels and never an issue. That's what I recommend in your case.

Question about location of stick-on weights......

Where is best location on the rim? In-line with the rim/hub mount surface? Rim centerline?

On most modern balancing machines, you tell the machine where you want to put the weights (inside / outside / both) and it will tell how much weight to put where. Some machines even let you elect to hide weights behind the "spokes" on the wheels.

Sticky weights is the way. The other kinds gouge the rim and fall off anyway

I balance my own and use sticky weights but I like to cover them with aluminum tape for double surety. Obviously the area should be really cleaned prior.

True, but I've had stick on weights fall off too. And I actually installed the ones that fell off. Since I cleaned the area (Brake Cleaner) and the wheels were new when I stuck them on, I can only blame crap adhesive on the weights.

in my experience both can stay secure if the right shape is chosen,
and gouging is not always the worst on a truck meant to be beaten up, especially if it's the right shape weight
    unless they're really nice wheels

but it's harder to use sticky ones on a truck, because big truck tires tend to require lots of weight for balancing.
like up to 5.00oz in a single spot, whereas cars usually require up to 1oz.
that's broken up in sticky weights; little ones are 1/4 oz while bigger ones are 1/2 oz

so it gets difficult to put them all in one spot, needing 10 (a lot) weights.
whereas if you pick a clip on weight of the right size, it's smaller (but thicker) so it uses less space.
Unless another way to do that is stack sticky weights atop each other, but that won't work for every truck regarding brake caliper clearance if the wheel is small and a tight fit

If you plan to wheel it get clip on for the wheel material type. Alloy or steel weights have different clips.

For clip-on wheel weights, FN is the type to use for Tacoma alloy wheels
    https://www.lawsonproducts.com/pdfs/PIRAT_Wheel_Weights_PI.pdf

Parts stores that are focused more on Garage business may handle them, or purchase through the internet
if not doing alot of tires suggest purchasing .5, .75, 1, and 2 oz weights.... as you can combine weights ie use (2) .75 oz weights for 1.5oz.....
just remembering to center the mass of the weight being added on the location indicated by the balancer

typically I do not worry about .25 oz weights, and have had no problems

And I won't further muddy the waters by mentioning Road Force. Oh wait, I just did ...
