For a 7.5" rear end. I have 3.58s but I'm looking to get better acceleration out of my 5-lug and to be able to hold 80 or 85 without the tranny kicking down a gear constantly. I would prefer 3.91s but I was told those only came in 8" differentials. And there are quite a few junk yards around where I live, so I'm pretty confident I can find the right Taco to pull them off of.

you have a 2.4 engine, doing 80-85 is all its got for the most part so you can play with gears all you want but the issue is that's all the power the engine can give you, its got nothing to do with the gearing.

85 might be pushing it.. but 80 is more realistic. I drive over 100 miles a day installing real estate posts all over central AZ. It just sucks not being able to keep my speed up..

Tacoma is stock and staying that way, Pickup is TBA as of now.
You need lower gears if you want more acceleration, 3.73 is really high. My 3.4 V6 has it and it's plenty adequate, but that's the difference between a V6 and 4 cylinder. You need to be looking into 4.10 gears my friend. I think all the 4 cylinder 4x4 Tacos have 4.10 rear ends, my 2011 did.

He is looking for a 7.5" diff for a 5 lug. All 1st gen 4x4 Tacos have either an 8.0" or an 8.4" rear diff. Your suggestion wouldn't help him. For gearing the 1st and 2nd gens are quite diffrrent. The 1st gens are lower geared and not all 4 cylinder 4x4 Tacos have 4.10 gearing by any stretch.

Would you guys know if 1st gen and 2nd gen 7.5 rears are identical, in that their gears could be interchanged?

And does anybody know what other size gears came in the 7.5 rear, >3.58? Even though it wont help with my top speed problem, its gotta help out acceleration, right?

compare part numbers, if the numbers are different then they are not interchangable

pretty sure 1st Gen 4cyl 4wd came with 4.56 (manual) or 4.88 (auto), or 4.38? 4.10 was 6cyl (auto or manual)

2wd I have no clue but I think it would be more limited

didn't 3.73 come on the '05+ TRD Sport? but that would still be 8" (not 5-lug either)

My 95.5 2.7 has 3.58's in it, my step dads 99 2.7 4wd has 4.10's. His truck feels like a sportscar compared to mine.

Those are opposite goals. Using gearing to improve one will hurt the other.
