I have a 2020 AC TRD Offroad, and have been looking at adding a few things that require their own switches. I have a number of blank panels that can be populated, but I've been overwhelmed by the number of options for switches that I've seen.

Is there a good reference somewhere for which switch fits in which hole? If I can determine which ones are correct, I'd probably opt for aftermarket illuminated switches labelled for the function.

At this point I'd prefer to populate the blanks rather than get a custom aftermarket switch panel, but if it's a much better option then I'd consider that too.

I think you're asking about the physical size of the switches...If so, there are 2, a square one and a rectangular one. The dimensions escape me at the moment. But, there are a number of aftermarket sources that cater to our market. here are the links for the two sizes, from one of the major sources.
Toyota Push Series Archives - CH4X4 Industries
Toyota Small Push Series Archives - CH4X4 Industries
They are also available as dual switches, (two switches within one housing), which can expand your opportunities without having to go the route of a custom panel. They are shown in the above link and there is another link to them below, in my signature.

When in doubt, get the calipers and measure.

The 3rd Gen will have both types of "Toyota standard" switches.

There is going to be one tall switch to the left of the steering wheel. Almost everything else is short.

Most aftermarket switch sellers know exactly what "Toyota small" is.

    Thanks for the leads.

Love the rotary switch idea, by the way. Except - holy crap that's expensive!

Measuring is cool, except that most of the listings I've seen don't list them.

It's helpful to know there are only two "standard" sizes for the generic blanks.

Yeah, they are definitely a "want" more than a "need" kind of item.

I populated the blank switches until I got an auxbeam which cleaned up my engine bay and simplified the wiring leading into the cabin. I wish I had went that route before. It also makes it easier to add on in the future. Just sharing my experience

Like I said, it's still on the table... but I just don't see requiring that many switches on this truck. I'm unlikely to remove most of the things I've added when I sell the truck at some point, so I'd like to avoid anything that looks really out of place & custom.

Here they are side by side

The one on the right is the "tall," Which is going to be the "FJ Cruiser" fitment. 1.52x0.82 inch

The two in the middle are the "small," Which will be the "Tacoma 2012-ON" fitment. 1.28x0.87 inch

There are going to be three popular go-to vendors of switches.
Start by shopping the switches at Aironboard, they have a light blue color that very closely matches OEM. If you can't find it there, move on to CH4x4 and Mictuning. The latter two are pretty much identical in build quality (actually, I'll go against the grain and say I like Mictuning better).

My preference would be to buy a couple cheap ones from AliExpress. There are a lot of listings like these that don't specifically list the Tacoma but do have size information:

    https://www.aliexpress.com/item/32915048612.html

Can anyone confirm whether this fits? I take it this is not the "tall" one? I'd appreciate more AliExpress links to switches that will most likely fit.

Just to get an idea of what it looks like in the cabin. They also make a 6 switch version. Doesn't look out of place. People make the panels online or you can 3d print it yourself

CH4X4 is an option and they have both size switches for numerous applications. You can even specify custom laser etched graphics which determines the backlight image. Led color choices are up to you. Knock offs often have poorly fitted plastic which can result in inconsistent switch operation.

You're right, it doesn't look much out of place. The price is a bit steep for me, given I don't see needing that many buttons.

How long have you been here? That list tends to grow rather than shrink as you read about more available mods.;)

I gotta say that the main advantage of the auxbeam is that it's much easier to control the rats nest. With separate relays and switches, one does need to plan ahead to keep the wiring somewhat manageable. :anonymous::anonymous:

True enough. I have a lot of unanticipated mods, but I prefer to have a stock look that mostly blends in so that limits what I can do and makes it easier to exercise self control. ;)

Is there anything else that fits in the OEM cargo/deck light switch slot left of the steering wheel?

aironboard also has a good number of switch options as well. they're also the only injection-molded expansion plates that i've found.

Planning is always a good idea.
I can agree with that. One thing you’ll find with more reading is that there are several different location options that can all use the Toyota style switches so if you do run out if space you’re not stymied. I just find that area accessible but not readily visible without moving my head around the wheel and my left arm which affected my choices. I use it but didn’t use it up. Some switches or utilities I want to see at a glance. For a vehicle I intend to keep a loong time my preference gets priority over a hypothetical next owner. That’s not true for others though.
