My battery just failed me. I've noticed it has been cranking a bit slower lately so it's no surprise. I updated the firmware on my head unit and it died in my garage during the process.

I've decided on an Optima, but I don't know which color. Red or yellow? I don't use the battery much with the engine off if that matters. I have no winch or huge power draws other than my stereo(2 amps).

3 inch lift with Toytec Boss and All Pro UCA's up front. AP expedition leafs with Bilstien 5100 shocks in the back. 255/85/16 Cooper S/T Max tires. All Pro skids, rear bumper and sliders, Hidden winch mount with XRC 8000 winch. Dual Optima batteries with IBS combiner/isolator and solar. CMC. Auto sliding rear window mod, hidden CB, CVJ axles and plenty of other little mods.
Red is a standard battery - yellow is deep cycle. If you plan on running it down and frequently recharging, then yellow. If not, red. I have one of each. Red to start the truck, yellow to run accessories.

Even though I don't plan on drawing it down, why wouldn't I just get the yellow?

Actaully the black case optimas are all for starting. Gray case optimas for deep cycle.

Why not get a more reliable battery than an optima and go with an Odyssey or a Northstar?

It seems like more of a personal preference than actual facts behind which is more reliable. :notsure:

Unless they've really upped their game in the last year I wouldn't pay for an Optima. I've had two die early, had two family members have them die early and know of several others. I don't know anyone running Optimas anymore.

I've both had and seen Optimas fail to perform prematurely, can't say the same for my Odyssey or my buddies' Northstars. Ever since Johnson Controls bought the Optima name they seem to have gone downhill with longevity and at this point you're just paying more for a goofy looking case and a colored top.

I don't know who is making Duracell's auto batteries (they sure aren't), we have a "Duracell" motorcycle AGM battery and it has been pretty good so far, good CCA and the GoldWing seems to be happy charging it. But like I said I don't know who the real OEM of them is, it very well could be a trusted name like Odyssey or Interstate.

There was a review saying that Penn makes them. Whoever Penn is.
