Seems to my little brain that Fumoto is hard to find much fault with. Long nipple too long I think even with skid plate. Short nipple if it drains straight out with adapter, but can control flow at valve even if slow. No nipple and control speed until everything looks lined up then open-the-taps. The extra cup of oil may require uninstall the plug after most oil drained out which is still less mess and essentially the same as removing the normal plug and hoping it does not make a mess with all of the oil in the pan. The f-lock clip is good to know about.

Femco may or may not be better mechanically, and ValvoMax was not discussed much except knowing it requires a screw-on adapter at least (if you do not want to use adapter and tube). For something done every 5k (unless one takes Toyota as "scripture" and only every 10k) and usually can be scheduled on a wide-open day (if one has those!) Fumoto drawbacks do not seem overwhelming.

    Unless I misread.

The Femco needs an adapter too just like the Valvomax. The two are kinda the same. Their difference is material, Femco is Brass, Valvomax is stainless steel. And Femco has different variations of their plugs. Click drain and twist drain, which is like the Valvomax. I like the twist drain because you have control of the oil flow. I've got my Valvomax after doing an oil change for the first time with the TRD skidplate. There's no way you can avoid getting some amount of oil on top of the skid plate. I have my oil change kit in a box (oil filter adapter, oil filter drain, Valvomax drain, and screw on funnel) I used to get a few drops on my driveway from the tubing on the drain tubing but now I have caps on the tubing and haven't spilled a drop since and can do an oil change in a half an hour taking my time.

Although I've decided not to use the Fumoto valve on my Tacoma because it's not protected by the skid plate, I do have it on my WRX and like it a lot. Another benefit of having the Fumoto is that you don't have to worry about accidentally dropping the drain plug into the oil drain container and having to fish it out. Not that it's a huge deal with a magnet retriever, but it makes things easier.

Yep, drain plug fishing. Point #7 in this thread.

I just purchased F133S with the drain tube kit. I have the engine skid which should be more more than enough protection. Fumoto also sells F-lock clamps (rings you compress with pliers) to use offroad to keep the valve from opening (the black plastic clip can fall off). Buy those clips with the valve to have total shipping costs make it easier to justify buying the F-locks.

Just wanted to follow up on the concern about the Femco valve leaking into the cap. I did my oil today, the cap is still as clean as a whistle.

Why are people so hip on this valve? Just another thing to leak...

Unscrew the standard plug and the hot oil flushes over your hand. The Fumoto allows you to select the rate the oil flows out, and many can get barely a drop on their hand when opening the valve.

500 times less issues with this than the factory drain plug. When was the last time you read about a service tech cross threading an oil pan drain plug?

It’s easier to use, it doesn’t leak, no changing the plug gasket, it’s cleaner, less spills, drain straight into a 5 quart jug.

I put one in the FJ at the end of July in 2008. It has never leaked, 147k miles it’s flawless.

Why would you not install one?

Well, not really if you think differently. This valve is installed once. I’d venture to guess the act of removing the drain plug every time, and all the failure possibilities that go along with that, is more risky.

Not one single drop if you attach the available drain tube to the valve with a nipple.

They really become helpful when you've got a skid-plate with a narrow hole for the oil drain.

I've had mine since my truck was brand new and I've had zero issues with it

i would say the exact opposite.

the most common issue with oil pans is damaged threads from cross-threading, or over-tightening, or double-stacked gaskets on the oem plug. the fumoto, or really any secondary oil pan drain mitigates both of these possibilities, and moves the component that one interacts with to a secondary device. this can better ensure that the oem pan threads and sealing surface are kept in better condition for longer.

and because the main interaction device is a secondary device, if it ever ultimately fails, replacement is easy, all while minimally effecting the oem threading and sealing surfaces.

A lot of the heavy duty companies, mining, farming , industrial stuff use the fumoto. The Japanese make the Valve, it’s not a cheap piece of junk. The new design also drains faster for the Tacoma.

Even if you do things yourself, some things make it easier and better/work smarter not harder, like Fumoto valve and a good filter wrench and drain plug with hose. It's like investing is quality tools.
