Hand tight then an extra 1/8th turn with a wrench. It’s not rocket science.

    I went with the Valvo-max.
Compact like the femco, but stainless, low profile, has a screw on cover, and a nice drain fitting with hose so you can drain directly into a small mouth container.

    won’t leak a drop…

I went with a Fumoto after being honest with myself and admitting I would eventually misplace the drain attachment on the other brands. With the Fumoto I can run right out the nipple or use a piece of appropriately sized scrap hose.

Is there a different translation for "Fumoto" by chance?

Doesn't the "scrap hose" degrade with the heat of the oil and eventually spring a leak thereby draining your oil pan?

The hose is only stuck on the nipple during oil changes. Directs the oil to the container.

That's what I went with. The compact femco. So far I like it.

Seems like that valve has parts that may degrade over time. Check out the video. A simple ball valve a la Fumoto seems more durable.

maybe that one will, it does look odd. Everything has issues. Fumoto's have the stuck valve issues. valvomax has the ball thing that looks like it would degrade over time.
the one I bought is different and seems solid enough

I’m going back n forth on these.

It looks like the only way to operate the fumo valve is from the pass side, and with the full rci skids can barely get my hand to the plug going above the skid.

Did the fumo screw in with the lever so you can get to it (pass side) or can you open/close it through the hole in the skid?

I easily access my Fumoto from the circular hole in my skid plate.

No way would I go for a quick-disconnect-style oil pan valve of any kind.
Seen too many QD's fail over the decades in many applications: compressed air lines, water lines, gas torch lines, hydraulic lines, etc. Multiple failure modes: sometimes they jam shut. Sometimes they open & then won't reclose. Sometimes they develop very small leaks.

The Fumoto plain & simple ball valve is inherently more reliable. No springs or moving parts, and a full-diameter, unobstructed flow path.

Someone said earlier in this post "Fumotos can have stuck-valve issues." Not sure how that can happen unless thru extraordinary amts of corrosion (?) maybe from lots of winter road-salt exposure. Even that seems unlikely: the body is solid brass, the ball valve is stainless steel, & the seal is some kind of high-performance inert plastic like teflon or viton.

Surprised no one has mentioned another super handy use for Fumotos:
Sampling small amounts of oil for periodic oil inspection/analysis/testing.

I have the Fumoto F133, no nipple sticking out to get snagged or bent, points straight down. Warm or hot 5W-30 motor oil drains out pretty fast, but the stream is thin enough that it doesn't splash in the oil drain catch pan. I'm not servicing a fleet of 50 taxis so I don't care whether it takes 7 minutes or 30 minutes for oil to drain -- I'm not lying there on the garage floor watching it.

For off-road use, a Fumoto lever-clip "F-lock" is a must-have addition. Only $2! Too bad Fumoto charges $9.95 for shipping. (I ordered 2, just in case 1 gets lost...)

Here's a long post I wrote about the F-lock clip, with more photos.

interesting. I've never seen a sink fail which is how the femco works but did hear about a lot of issues that can arise with the ball valve. I guess we'll see. So far I'm pleased with it.

Sounds like the threads of the valve are too tall when sitting inside the pan which causes about a cup of oil to remain in the pan. This isn't a huge concern but what about the gunk and solids that build up in that area and never get drained?

Once every 5 years or so uninstall the fumoto and let it fully drain. Then replace the gasket and reinstall.
