Upon searching I found some military d rings that had a 1/2 inch hole, which fits the bed's front bolts, but they are out of stock. Amazon has some v rings (linked below) but they need to be drilled out - I also worry about trusting 2 dirt bikes to some $13 amazon part. The OEM toyota d rings don't have a sufficient hole size either. Am I stuck with drilling the amazon d rings, or is there an alternative that's more "plug and play"?

Thanks for the replies everyone! Definitely some new ideas I haven't seen before.

Will this fit the 1/2" hole requirement for the front bed bolts? It lists two dimensions, not sure how to make of it.

The chrysler ones look great, as long as they're 1/2" diameter hole. I can't find a dimension on it, and I'm torn to order because they charge $10 for shipping .. for each!

Thanks for the installation thread. I have seen it, and I wonder if that toyota part would have fit if the OP didn't dremel his top threads of his bolt. I've heard from others that the toyota part does not fit without drilling it out.

Maybe I'm overthinking it, but it seems like anything without a swivel acts as a lever arm, increasing the forces on it and the bolt/etc. Probably a non issue given that it's a frame it's attaching to?

The metolious hanger will not pass a true 1/2” bolt, but just barely. you could file/drill out the difference, or, try these guys:

    https://fixeclimbing.com/public/ANCHORS.pdf

Fixe also makes a rated hanger with a rap ring which could make you feel better with strap/hook angle, but would jangle around when empty. Just get a regular hanger, pull on it at roughly the strap angle and tighten the bolt. At >5K lbf, it ain’t bending.

I’ve only done it once with the taco (trailer other times), but the stock tie down points worked just fine for me.

    Stock always worked for me.

That said, it looks like there are better options

Don't get those. I use something similar for bungee cording groceries and gas cans to the bedsides. I sure as hell wouldn't trust it for anything beyond 50 pounds static.

The issue with this is that the stock front attachments points aren't secured by anything substantial on the other side, and the rail attachments are flimsy as hell. Since I've got two bikes, it needs to be as solid as I can (sanely) research.

I know people complain about the sturdiness of the stock tie down points, but my personal experience is that I have some hefty racket straps that I have tensioned quite a bit and never busted a tie down point yet. You can distribute the load over 4 of them too. Two dirt bikes seems like a hassle in that little bed. That’s why I use a trailer.

Thanks man, but I ended up just ordering the ones from toyota. I figure something that was designed for the bed will hopefully be sturdy enough.

Now whether they will fit the 1/2" hardware without drilling out.. we'll see. I'll update this thread or post a new one with my setup.

*edit* - scratch that, couldn't get someone at toyota to verify these fit. Ended up ordering 5170492AA from a local dodge dealer who had em in stock. Gonna grab them tomorrow and they should fit perfectly. Thanks for the # @robe689

Just a post to note the attached torque specs. The 60ft-lbs that I guessed was too high.

    Thanks, @Saeros !

So is the torque spec 44 ft lbs?

Interesting because that's roughly what I set it to. Any more felt like I was going to strip the bolt.

    Nice!

The bolt will not strip at that torque. The sleeve in the composite bed is likely to crush though.
