I'm replacing my shocks front and rear with some new Bilstein 5100/5125's and wanted to ask which coil springs would be best suited to my needs. I'm leaning towards just getting a new set of oem coils as my 02 4x4 is mostly on the road and I dont want any lift. There's about 90k on the original coils now so I'd say they're due for replacement, otherwise i'd re-use them. I've already utilized the search function but not much information on coils for stock height and weight support.

    Thank You

Look up OME 885 springs. They will work but not if you fully extend the billy's. research it more to double check from other sourses.

well if you don't want a lift your options are limited.

check out OME 880 coils. they should be rated for stock height. don't look at the 885's those are for 2nd gens only.

They should last for the life of the vehicle you don't need to replace the springs

3" lift EIBACH coils w/ 5100's front, OME/ Dakar leaf springs w/ toytec adjustable shackles at 1.5" and 5125's out back. 33x10.5x15 KM2's Relentless DIY steel bumper.
Depending which gen you have, the eibach springs would give a first gen 3" of lift and the 2nd gen 1.5" of lift. But if your not wanting any lift at all then just keep your stocks or get new stock springs.

But a little lift will add to appearance and off road capabilities if you ever did go. And new lift coils are either the same price or just a tad bit more than new stock spring coils. Just an FYI

    good luck!

True but would it be harmful to have the 5100's and the eibach for 2nd gen? even if it is at 0" with the spring for 1.5 inches? Just for looks, no serious off roading.

The Eibach isnt even made for a tacoma strut. It is something that someone found that fits.

not particularly dangerous. guys run this setup a lot. in fact you can even set it on the second notch to get 2.5" if lift. but as Downsouth Motorsports said they're not designed specifically for our trucks, thru just work

I've been wrestling with/researching this same thing
I would really like to beef up my suspension; simply to handle the added weight of something like an ARB Bumper
However, I DO NOT want to lift the vehicle; I don't want to mess with the stock angles

Minus the All-Pro and Toytec Coilovers that advertise 0"-3" adjustable I'm not aware of any stronger than stock coils that don't give some lift

    So, excuse the Newb question
Will adding a superior/stronger shock (like the 5100's in question) increase the amount of weight I'm able to handle
Or is the entirely the actual coils job?

I love my new truck but miss my Tacoma
Seems like most of your responses have not been to your actual question. If your stock springs are not sagging then just reuse them. If they are and you don't want any lift you might want to get a new set of oem springs or maybe the OME 880 springs mentioned before and the shocks will update the performance of any springs. GL

The springs are what hold the weight. The shocks are only to dampen the springs from bouncing. If your adding weight to the front of your truck you might want to look into a spring with a higher spring rate. Look for a spring that says it will add 1/2 to 1 inch or so because that is without adding any weight and the added weight of the bumper will bring it back down some. Close to stock. GL

I am going to put 5100's on my '09 trd sport. It has 126,000 miles on it and I believe the shocks are the original bilsteins it came with new. I just bought this truck used and know nothing of it history but it does appear to have been well maintained. I plan on using the stock coils that are on it. My questions are these. 1. Should I put an AAL on the rear? The leaf pack that is on now has 3 leafs. I read somewhere that there should be 4. 2. Can I switch from the 265/65/17 tires to 265/70/17 without any issues with or without the new 5100's? 3. Has anyone paid to have 5100's installed all around with or without AAL and if so what did it cost? I just plan on lifting front .85 or 1.75 max to get a more level look and also be sure of no rubbing of larger tires. I drive some shitty dirt roads and very little offroading. I plan on getting 5100's from DSMS and tires from DTD and finding a local place to install all at same time with alignment. I might even get a set of those Level8 MK6 wheels from DTD but I have no clue about size and back spacing etc. If I am going dump a wad of loot on this truck I don't want to hose it up due to my ignorance. Any advice greatly appreciated. Thanks.

If you plan to just level the truck, and do not want to go higher than 1.75, I would not add the AAL. If you do add it, you would have to use the top setting on the strut in order to level the truck.. In most cases.
You should not have an issue with that tire fitment.

Thank You I will just go with the 5100's. Ordering them now from DSMS.
