I've seen some people use Ford Ranger campers but I'm not sure how good the fit would be, it might require a little bit of weather stripping modification. Might also want to research Nissian Frontier campers, those might fit as well.

If you find something that fits well and looks suitable, I'd love to hear about it. I've been looking forever. The few used ones that I have found are pretty beat up and a new one is at least $3K.

If you are in a hurry, beat up or expensive brand new is all you will find. Be patient, keep checking OfferUp, FB market and Craigslist and eventually a decent deal will pop up. IFTTT is a good way to keep up on Craigslist, and there isn’t always a lot of competition especially for 1st gen.

All of them are make/model specific, so....

Even the caps for the regular cab and extracab are not interchangeable. Even though they have the same exact bed, the cabs are shaped different. So you either get a weird shaped gap (see pic) or the cap hits the cab.

As others said, the Ranger is fairly close dimentionally, but I'm pretty sure that's for the regular cab/extracab bed, not the short bed of the doublecab.

I don't think anything is that close to the double cabs bed. It's sort of a 1 off.

Sorry to say, but patience is your only ally here. Search as far as you're willing to travel, and then maybe a bit beyond. Some folks will be willing to meet you in the middle to make a sale.

I scored mine on a fluke, and it was fairly rough. I had to reseal the windows, replace the (nonexistent) lock hardware on the back glass, and replace the third brake light. Also, mine was originally silver, then spray painted hunter green. I decided to take it to Line-X and have it coated since I sort of dig the stormtrooper look.

Be prepared to jump when one comes available, and then prepare for a project afterwards.

    Good hunting!

I got one off of an 80's pickup or hilux or whatever you want to call them. The bed dimensions are the same, but the cab angle is a bit different but barely noticeable. I'm pretty sure there was a short box version of those as well.
