Added a bed cover to my '21, wanting to add the bed lights, looking on Amazon there's sets from $19 to $50, does it matter? They all look like the same kit unless I'm missing something...

I bought and installed the cheaper ones off Amazon and after 6 months they still work perfectly. They literally just plug in just as the OEM.

I wouldn't skimp on exterior lighting but for bed lights under a cover....well I just didn't see the need to spend $60+.

In my humble opinion save those extra dollars for mods you shouldn't skimp on. Bought obviously it's your money and piece of mind. Cheers!!

You have a 2021 like mine. For 2020 and above the OEM bed lights are plug and play, and for the $50-$60 you'll spend on them you will have no worries about the dealership blaming aftermarket bed lights if you have an electrical issue under warranty. Well worth the extra $$ IMHO.

Ordered these. Came with wiring harness which fit perfectly to the OEM connections. About 15 minutes to install both. Decided on the middle of the road (cost wise) model and based on reviews. Was not concerned with going with a cheaper model since they are concealed by the tailgate and bed cover. Still working perfectly. $26 and some change.

The odds after market bed lights cause any electrical issues that a dealer would (or even could) conect to them falls somewhere between slim to none.

What's next, avoiding an after market tonneau cover for fear of the dealer voiding your warranty? Or window tint? Or a goofy window decal?

To each their own sir. While I agree the odds are slim that they would actually cause an issue, that doesn't stop an asshat dealer from saying they did. Then I'd have to fight them. For an extra $30 to get the OEM bed lights (which I did), it's not worth even the slim chance of that kind of aggravation....to me anyway.

I tend to be very conservative about doing things that could potentially cause warranty issues. Others are the opposite and will do ECM tunes and lifts on brand new trucks. That's ok too. It's their truck and their money and they should do what lets them enjoy their truck. The OP asked for opinions so I shared mine. Doesn't make it any more or less valid than anyone else's, it's just my preference. :hattip:

Oh absolutely. My post wasn't in any way intended to dismiss your opinion. To each their own, it's your money, your truck, and your piece of mind. You have to make decisions you feel comfortable with, just as the OP does, just as I do.

And I get it, I worry about warranty voiding as well with mods. But my concerns tend to revolve around engine mods, major suspension mods, and computer tuning.

I'm peraonally not going to get stuck in the weeds on the minor stuff (to me) like after market lighting and other bolt on type accessories. If something like bed lights is a limiting factor then a person is either A: going to be driving a mostly stock truck till the warranty expires or B: spend a fortune to get the truck the way they want.

Edit: and getting these trucks the way we want still costs a small fortune even without going OEM. Haha

Unless you have an Access Cab. The AC does not come with the dash switch, so you have to buy it separately. It costs $60+, more than the bed light kit itself. (The rest of the wiring is there.)

I saw those but at this point I'd be okay with just the two small lights. I know I have the spots for them physically. I'm not sure about wiring

Nope they are not the same, the more expensive lights are OEM Toyota, the less expensive are aftermarket. You need to pay close attention because some sellers add the words Toyota Tacoma along with the factory part numbers but if you look closely you'll see the important words like "fits" "same as" "compatible with", etc.

I paid $50 for the OEM lights, the $20-23 savings going with a no name aftermarket light wasn't worth it to me. Aftermarket lights CAN depending on how cheap they were made, have lights that burn out quicker, can overheat & melt-discolor the lens, have loose fitting connectors that come loose, etc. Please note I said MAY and not will, I'm sure there will be owners saying they purchased aftermarket and they are just as good.

You have a brand new 2021 loaded Tacoma, why cheap out know.

A few OE parts from fancy trucks

    This.

    I have them, love them.

While he developed his kit pre 3rd gen with OE options, it would still be my choice for lighting even if I ever had a 3rd gen.

Yup. The wire is there in the tail light housing, literally just capped off.
