which AGM jack rod?

    Anyone know whether to use the 3.5 or 3.5 XL

    On badlands Jack

    heard someone used 3.5
    Haven’t seen a review of XL
    Chart says both work

    My badlands jack goes up to 21.5” without the extension.

    I wish they would send both for review to a TW YouTuber to determine which is better to use on a lifted truck with big tires

    because without knowing for sure otherwise, it appears the XL may have a minimum height to operate requiring the truck be lifted in the air way too high and not allow for use of the extension.

    Something low like skid plate or diff I sneak the badlands under without extension. But frame lifting I use the extension.

    as you can see from this pic with a different jack, because of the use of a multiple setting extension, the jack itself did not have to go that high. In the case of lifting by axle tube. XL does not appear it would fit in such a scenario.

    this makes me think 3.5 > XL because it may be smaller, fit in more places, and be more versatile
    With the actual lift height capability being determined by the badlands (itself is a tall jack due to the tires) and use of extension that I assume is configurable

    only other thing I can think of is test jacking up the truck in various places with the jack set up how I normally would, to a wheel removable stand height
    And take measurements during this of floor to pad or something like that.

    This discussion made me think of modifying the factory screw jack to use it as the stabilizer. Just add some "U" clips (top and bottom) to stay in place and rig the driver stem to be driven by my electric impact. Will have to check this out ..............

    that’s a good idea if it works. Instantly adjustable and free.

    found a thread of discussion on another forum about the jack rod. Every poster paranoid to rely on bracing between Jack axles that may not be designed for it as a single method of safety.

    never heard of a jack rod failure. Maybe not a bad idea to put stands under even if they’re not touching. Or a wheel.

    or just keep using regular stands since it’s not a big deal to put them once the truck is already jacked up.

    I don’t know if there was any testing or analysis on that. Versus actual jack stands which are designed with that in mind.

    maybe it was just too lazy for me to think of eliminating stands…
