Replaced the 7 prong and got the 4 prong adapter...used a Hopkins (might regret wiring into it ...not sure yet). My trailer lights are not working right, really odd acting. After reading other posts, I've come to the conclusion it's probably the converter. I've done everything recommended....checked all the fuses and made sure the connection is good. Where is the tow converter located? Only had this truck a little over a year.

I have a fuse for tow(ing) converter ...I'd think it'd have to be on the truck somewhere

You talking about you bought the converter that plugs into the factory 7 pin and gives you a 4 pin connection?

I'm kind of thinking now she replaced the 7 pin on the truck with another connector with only 4 pins.

The wiring part has me confused. If you need 4 pin off of the 7 pin it's too easy to just use one of the plug in converters and be done. Less than $10.

The functions for the wires in the factory harness are:
    White - Ground
Red - Left Turn (will also come on with brakes)
Brown - Right Turn (will also come on with brakes)
Black - 12v (this is the constant hot wire it will only be on when the ignition is on)
    Blue - Electric Brake
    Yellow - Reverse Lights
    Green - Tail Lights

Well, if you rewired something then that could be the cause of the trailer lights not working. What are we missing?

Guess we should start with, do you have the factory tow package?

The 7 pin connector on was truck was bad... I put a new one on. Got the 4 pin adapter with it. I have it wired right. The lights when I hook it up to a trailer act all strange. That's why I was asking about the converter. I'll get it. So my terminally is not as perfect as yours...excuse me. Thanks and goodnight.

Well alrighty then. Sorry we didn't understand what you were trying to get at. Jake said above that the converter is located under the bed. No one said anything about your terminology. We were trying to help. Have a good night.

    Hi there,

As you have a TRD Sport, I assume you originally had a round 7 pin wiring connector. Just to be clear, what happened was that connector was replaced with another 7 pin connector (made by Hopkins) and you are now also using a 7 pin to 4 pin adapter? Please let us know if that is not right.

I'm not trying to be picky, just that with wiring there a lot of places where something can go wrong so it's good to get all the details.

Also, what are the odd things your trailer lights are doing? Sometimes working, sometimes not? Lights coming on when others where supposed to, or none supposed to?

We''ll get it figured out together!

Get a test light. Check the prongs on the 7 pin to see if they're functioning correctly first. If they are, it's your 4 prong adapter. I've had a faulty one myself.

If the 7 pin is indeed not working correctly, dig deeper.

    Not Enough.
Define acting strange. I've been selling hitches and trailers for 16 years. I can't guarantee it, being as it's electrical and we're trying to get it figured out over the Internet, but I'm pretty sure I can help you get it figured out.
