    Oh look, another mod....
Your VIN starts with 4, so it was built in the good ol' US of A. For the longest time, the vast majority of Tacoma's were built in San Antonio, Texas (The rest were made in Baja Mexico).

You got a certified, grade-A Texan truck. You're welcome!

San Antonio started rolling cars off the assembly line in 2006. Prior to that Tacomas were made at the NUMMI plant in Fremont Cali, shuttered and sold in 2010.

    *trivia that no-one cares about.

Edit: NUMMI really has an interesting bit of business history. Whether or not either company involved learned from the joint venture has been debated for over a decade now.

No idea what TABD is, I searched briefly & came up empty. No matter cause that's not what it says on your sticker, it says TABC.

TABC is Toyota Auto Body Co, originally Atlas Fabricators (contracted by Toyota), before Toyota bought them. That facility is in Long Beach, CA and is where many Tacoma parts are made.

AFAIK, all 1st gens were assembled at the NUMMI plant. My '01 says NUMMI Fremont, CA on it. According to wiki Toyotas were first assembled there starting in '86 (Corolla), Toyota PU in '91, and Tacomas starting in '95.

Crazy, I was born and raised in Fremont. That freeway 880S is now like 5 lanes but still get congested everyday.

TABC is where Toyota builds the cabs and bedsides of the Tacoma to this day. They’re in Long Beach, California. However, final assembly of all 1st gen Tacomas were completed at NUMMI in Fremont, CA.

As to why some VIN’s say TABC and some say NUMMI, I have no idea.

It’s funny because in the family we have a Tacoma and and a Tesla Model 3 that rolled off the same assembly line in the same factory 20 years apart.

Toyota built beds for US-market pickups in Long Beach for a lotta years. Our family’s 1981 Toyota Truck (often called a Hilux, although Toyota USA didn’t call them that back in the day) had a bed built in Long Beach. Japan-made trucks were fitted with beds made in USA or Japan. The principal difference, IIRC, was that Japan-made beds had a locking fuel filler door and US-made beds didn’t.

I drive that stretch of interstate all the time, it’s so weird seeing it as a 2-lane variation.

Fun fact, Great Mall in Milpitas down the road was a Ford factory. That’s why it’s laid out so weird.

Yeah. I don't remember what they came with or whatever, Land Cruisers or something like that. I never saved all the info I read. All I know is they are made by O.H. Industrial Japan (One Hand?), 450g. Although some US Toyota dealers listed them none were able to actually order it for me. @4xdog (on a different forum) pointed me in the direction on how to get em from Japan. I'm sure he can give you more history/details about them. There's a soft face hammer too. He's also got the Toyota branded Vessel screwdrivers. I've already got all the Vessel drivers I need so I didn't bother getting the Toyota branded ones.

Here's a bigger pic so you can see the p/n
