You should be fine with 265/65/17 on the 17x7 +5. Factory tpms should transfer too.

Posted my own thread in 1st gens forum with the question, but I will ask here because this thread is so recently active...

Can anybody confirm that the newer (PTR56-89210-F2) wheel will fit a 1st gen?

This is a link to my thread that has the details of my rig setup, if it helps anyone give me a more informed opinion...

Thanks to everybody for all the sharing and learning I get from this site!

The 5th Generation 4Runner comes with 265/70R17 tires which are suitable for use with 7" rim widths.

The 2nd/3rd Gen Tacoma OEM tire size is 265/65R17. This tire size is not recommended for use on a 7" rim width. The shorter, stiffer, 265/65R17 tires require a minimum 7.5" rim width. This is why the OEM 17" Tacoma TRD Sport wheels from 2nd and 3rd Generation Tacomas are and always have been 7.5" wide.

That doesn't mean that you cannot physically install a 265/65R17 on a 7" rim width. You most definitely can, but you might experience uneven tire wear, more rapid tire wear, or premature failure of the wheel and/or tire.

Tire Rack is a very good source for looking up all kinds of tire data, including the OEM tires specifications for the Tacoma. Here are the 2023 Tacoma TRD Sport OEM 17" tire options with specs courtesy of Tire Rack (highlighted area added by me for emphasis):

Here's the popular BFG KO2 in 265/65R17 as well:

Our FN Wheels FX Pro wheels are 17x8" for this very reason. 8" rim width provides a lot of versatility with your tire selection. You can safely install 255mm ~ 295mm tires in a wide range of aspect ratios.

255/75R17, 255/80R17, 265/65R17, 265/70R17, 275/70R17, 285/70R17, 295/70R17 all work well and are approved by all tire manufacturers for use with an 8" rim width.

If your Tacoma came with TPMS sensors with rubber valve stems you'll just need your installer to change out the valve stems when moving the sensors over. The rubber valve stems that are used with TPMS sensors are different from standard TR413 rubber valve stems, but most tire installers should have the correct valve stems on hand.

TPMS rubber valve stems are thicker than standard rubber valve stems, and they have a threaded brass base that attaches to the sensor by a screw (inside the wheel).
