I’m a little aggravated that Toyota only has truck bed floor tie offs at the rear of my SR5.
Anyone have a good solution for tie offs at front of truck bed?

Not sure why you can’t use the tie downs on the front side

I think I wasn’t specific enough. I am speaking floor tie downs. I don’t want fuel or ammo cans going vertical.

That being said - I am getting some good ideas from y’all and I appreciate your making the time to reply.

My 2022 AC came with the metal cleats shown. But I find the deck-rail system tie downs useful as well.

    ^ Thank-you, good to know.
I noticed that my metal cleats were factory installed much higher than yours.
I was hoping someone offered a tie down I could put where the bed liner bolts are. Like a big washer with an attachment point.

Look for Dodge bed bolt tie downs. I used them on my second Gen (and there is probably a thread still there on adding tie downs if you search).

You can buy Toyota tie downs, but the Dodge version are bigger and cheaper.

Removing the bed bolt can be a PITA though. The bolt passes through a molded “well” that is covered by the washer. Water can get under the washer and sit in this well, rusting the bed bolt. I sheared one and had to drill it out, turning a 20 minute job into a 3 hour job.

If you are in a rust belt location, I would spray penetrating oil on those bolts daily for a week before I tried removing them.

    $10 for 4 D-rings is what I used
    https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B07M6K765R?ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_asin_title

Something else worth noting is that if you choose to use the bed bolts, the washers are captive. In order to remove them, you have to grind some fins off the body of the bolt that keep the washers in place.
Then you can put a D ring on followed by the oem washer you just removed and torque to spec.

Quick question please - are the nuts captive or must I have a wrench on them underneath the truck?

    Appreciate all of this help.

The nuts are captive, welded to the frame. You can hit them with penetrating oil too, but they are somewhat hard to see. They are tucked up there pretty well.

The ‘fins’ that hold the washer on the bolt can be removed by chucking the bolt into a drill and holding sandpaper / a file against them while the bolt spins. Just takes a couple minutes.

Remember to hit the bolt shaft with paint to protect it from rusting where you sanded it. I’d hit the entire exposed area of the bolt with grease just because of that water pocket well.

I could be paranoid because of my broken bolt experience, but my bolts were visibly smaller in diameter where rust had eaten away the bolt shaft. I ended up buying new bolts from Toyota and replacing mine.

^ Thanks Chris, they are tucked way up there, glad they are captive. Appreciate all the tips on this one.
