Hello everyone, I’ve been looking to answer this question but haven’t been lucky, I have a 2017 TRD Pro and I’ve been looking to locate VIN numbers in my truck, so far I’ve been able to find the one located on the driver side front window and on the driver door (this one is a sticker), does anyone know where I can find any other VIN number on my truck ? I’ve check the O&M manual and write to Toyota they said I should be able to find them (besides the ones previously located ) under the passenger seat and on the engine bay firewall however I haven’t been able to find anything, I’ve check the engine as well and I found the engine cereal number but not the VIN, hope someone can help me, a picture/video showing them will be VERY HELPFUL ! Thanks for your support

I was told by a LEO that there are hidden VINs that only law enforcement generally know. These are for identification of stolen vehicles. So, discussing these on the internetz is probably not the best idea?

There is a plaque on the firewall on all vehicles that tells you vin, color, engine, etc.

It is welded on and can be hard to see as it is painted the same color as the truck and is tucked away behind the heads or in one of the corners. You may need to crawl under the rig with a flashlight to find the firewall plate.

As far as under the seat. You will need to pull the seat out. Those are under the carpet and are never in the same location.

    Welcome to the forum.

I've always gone by the one on the driver's side, at the bottom of the windshield. I've never had a reason to look for more.
Just curious about why you feel the need for more. :notsure:

Anyone know how long the battery lasts on a Dewalt 4-1/2” cordless angle grinder?

It was actually a rhetorical question used as a failed, though not-so-subtle, attempt at humor. *sigh*

The engine will not have the Vin on it, but has it's own serial number. That axles will have parts of the vinor maybe all of it. There may be aluminum tags with numbers that if there is a problem will ID that axel or other engine part. Do not remove any tags made of metal .

I have no idea how many Tacoma changes there are in a given year, or how many models of a like looking truck made for around the world there are in a given year, but last I knew Volvo for just cars, had around 56 different cars all similar but not the same a year and there were mid year changes too .

The average street cop doesn't even know. Of course, he'd have no reason to know, since you have to tear the vehicle apart to find them. I saw an insurance investigator asked once in court where they could be found (by the defense attorney) and the judge ruled he didn't have to reveal that info as it is confidential/proprietary.

OP, do you suspect something nefarious with your taco? Tampering with or altering a VIN plate can get you 5 years in federal prison.

A buddy of mine is a state cop and when he got injured and couldn’t be on patrol he was assigned to verifying VIN numbers on cars for the DMV. He had a book which told him where to look for the hidden vin numbers.

From a dealers website. It does state "on a few vehicles" for the passenger seat tag. It never specified if the Tacoma is one of those few.
