I'm sure this has been asked before.

When do you need extended brake lines on a 3rd gen?

When the stock ones are no longer long enough?

Everyone is a smart ass on the internet

Ok.... how much lift can you run before you start needing extend-o brake lines on a 3rd gen Taco?

I'm not talking long travel suspension here.

I'm talking, for example: 2 inch front/ 1.5 inch rear lift.

Does that require longer brake lines?

They aren’t that expensive so if you’re lifting just change them and you don’t have to worry about it, especially if you’re off-roading.

I mean, that's fair. I just have a habit of buying shit I don't actually need.

So I'm trying to avoid that...for now.

It’s not the lift, it’s the travel. The brake lines in question are the ones that run from the top of the bed down to the axle. If your suspension travel is greater than the line length you could break the line. For 2-3” most guys just install a spacer on the block attached to the axle. For 3” lift with longer travel you should replace the lines. If you’re worried about it just lift the back of the truck up until the wheels come off the ground. You’ll be able to see free play quite easily.

I figured I'd do a droop test in my driveway. Thanks for the good replies.

Not sure on the exact point but I have an Icon 3AAL 1.5” lift installed in the rear with no issues at all on stock lines. Did the droop test and it was fine and I’ve taken it off-road several times and it’s fine. And the front is about 2.25” lift

Not a lift expert by any means, but isn't wheel travel a bit longer when axle is articulating as opposed to just jacking the rear end off the ground?

I was thinking I'd also use another jack to hit a flex test. Ha.

Not 100% sure but I can’t see the leafs extending further than it can when both wheels are off the ground. Maybe @AccuTune Offroad can answer this one.

Leaf springs don't flex quite as much as a true 4-link does, so you should be fine is its not completely maxed at full droop. We will be offering brake line kits soon, which will be an upgrade and allow for that extra travel.

For the rear I bought a brake extension bracket. In lieu of doing extended brake lines. I have Dakar Medium leafs and extended 5100 shocks (5125).

    It's the gold bracket.

Any trick to bleeding the brake lines on a 3rd gen? Or treat it as any other. I’m thinking of abs modules and the like.

Where did you get that? Is it zinc plated?

Ebay. It was actually made for 2nd gen tacoma. I didn't like the idea of installing extended brake lines on a brand new truck.

This kit, I only used the U bracket.
